Jan Turkenburg:

Hi everyone!
  10:11am
Listener Robert:

I wonder where the commenters are today. Maybe distracted by the suspense of the fundraiser, or of Ken F.'s apparent illness (which I hope is better today).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:12am
Jan Turkenburg:

Hi Robert. I didn't hear about Ken's illness yet... I hope it's not too serious.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:14am

Hi Jan and all
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:38am
Jan Turkenburg:

Hi MHLee!
  11:07am
Listener Robert:

It's been like this since we've been able to follow the amounts pledged over time. Donors put off pledging until the end of the marathon, and even until the end of individual programs within the marathon. It's like collectively they deliberately want to dramatize it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:08am
Jan Turkenburg:

:-) yes, seems like it, Robert!
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 11:14am
WR:

Hello Jan and streamers. Few minutes break here so here until my next call.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:14am
Jan Turkenburg:

Hi WR!
  11:15am
Listener Robert:

In 2019 the goal was not reached until about the beginning of May, long after the close of the marathon. But in 2020, under conditions so amazingly adverse as the beginning of quarantine DURING the marathon, the goal was reached within about a week and a half following the formal end of the marathon. That impressed me even more than 2021's reaching of the goal early.

This year when they cut back the formal marathon to 2 weeks but opened the widget 2 weeks beforehand, I saw the rate it was filling up for the first of those weeks and thought it would be a piece of cake -- that at that rate, they could SKIP the marathon and get to the goal in a little over a month. Then the second pre-marathon week was slower, and now it's a nail-biter again.

Texas Alexander I only know of because he has a song called Risin Sun Blues that is not house of the risin sun

Morning Jan and over/unders!
  11:19am
Listener Robert:

In Dutch, do they have an equivalent to the German "teppich fresser", "carpet eater", meaning someone who paces back and forth and thereby "consumes" (wears out) the rug?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 11:20am
chresti:

Nice prize!

Last night Burbujas started an hour late because Mexico doesn't change the time until April
  11:29am
Listener Robert:

I can understand how it would not be a nice thing to say. In German there's a distinction between "essen" and "fressen". "Fressen" is how an animal eats, approximately "feed" in the intransitive sense in English, so it's used to refer to eating in a not-nice way -- like someone stuffing hirself, or simply consuming without regard.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 11:29am
WR:

timeanddate.com is my go to. Yesterday Speedo of Burbujas on Sheena's, who is usually streaming from Mexico City, was streaming for Santiago de Chile. 3 different time zones, 3 different DST dates. Not surprisingly he was late.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am
Jan Turkenburg:

DST or "summer time" goes in effect in the weekend on march 26-27 in Europe.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 11:31am
chresti:

Yeah WR, I guess South America starts later too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:32am
joe:

I think Otis mentioned a time site that I checked out and really liked, but now I can't remember what it was.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:33am
Jan Turkenburg:

@Robert. same difference between 'eten' en 'vreten' in Dutch. However sometimes 'vreter' is used in a positive way like in 'dossiervreter' = somebody who gets to the bottom of a file.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 11:33am
WR:

Jan, looks like there will be competition for the prizes this hour.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 11:34am
Lizardner Dave !:

Which prizes are left again? I've been in and out due to work.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:35am

Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am
Wenzo Toad:

did it come out of a river in Wisconsin
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am
Jan Turkenburg:

Yes, chresti that one was very quickly claimed in the first hour :-) Hey Wenzo!
  11:39am
Listener Robert:

Sp can I take it that a dossiervreter is someone who is quick at "digesting" material in a file?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am
Jan Turkenburg:

@Robert yes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:40am
joe:

Can anybody recommend a good Spike Jones bio? Or a bad one if you think you don't like me :)
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 11:42am
WR:

I've not completed my swag for life distribution yet, mostly due hard choices over which DJ Premiums to choose. So I've been scattering one time donations around and about 30-40% of the time getting a prize. Yep, I'm a prize slut.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 11:44am
WR:

@11:39 @Wenzo Toad: clever comment.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 11:44am
chresti:

A very long time ago, I met someone who was related to Spike Jones, he went to school with a friend of ours.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:45am
Jan Turkenburg:

any preference for today's prizes, WR? Since you've donated enough during this hour...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:47am
joe:

@chresti did they punctuate all of there sentences with whistles and burps?
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 11:48am
chresti:

That's what I've been doing too, WR. Too many great premiums to choose from.

Haha Joe, you would think, but no.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:51am
Jan Turkenburg:

@ joe, I don't know which would be the best source of info for Spike Jones. I would have to google and evaluate myself. I wrote an article about him twenty years ago. I'm not sure it's still on the net. Likely there are better sources anyway.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:52am
joe:

Interesting article I just coincidentally stumbled on. The US attempted to go permanent DST in 1974 www.washingtonian.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:53am
joe:

@Jan Thank you!!! I'll do some poking and see what I come up with.
Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 11:55am

DST is also proven to be bad for your brains.

Avatar 🎸 Swag For Life Member 11:56am
WR:

No strong preference, all three are interesting to me. Weren't any of the other new donations 20 or more?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am
joe:

I'm glad you did because you are one of about 20-25 people in my near 50 years that has pronounced it right
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56am
