	🎸 ♥ 9:07pm Austin Rich: This cassette tape was released as "Mini-Mutations" and in the notes, mentions horridus and Derek. But the original session was MKU and Derek together. The cassette this appeared on is out of print now, until I can source for C-40s to make more.

	🎸 ♥ 9:09pm Austin Rich: For this session, Derek was playing a cello, run through plenty of FX. horridus was using a rack of modular synths. And I had a MicroGranny and two CDJs, with samples loaded into all of them. There's more to this session, but this section works the best, I think. (Derek's solo set during this session was also amazing.)

	🎸 ♥ 9:11pm Austin Rich: Since MKU didn't keep going, and the recordings didn't really wind up getting used anywhere, some of the sessions have turned up as early Mini-Mutations releases, with horridus credited on them. Someday I'll do a proper collection of all the MKU stuff, and release it on a USB drive, or something.

	🎸 ♥ 9:14pm Austin Rich: Derek did some Cello work for Unwound, and performs in a number of groups as a performer. But his solo stuff is pretty incredible. I've engineered live performances for him a few times. He can play straight up cello, but also likes the really weird stuff, too.

I invited horridus to join us today, but I'm not sure if they are still online. they weren't really much on the internet, even when we were playing together.

	🎸 ♥ 11:13pm Austin Rich: Don was the first person to book Cathead, the first band I ever played in, in the early 90s. He was also the first person to book MKUltramegaphone outside of Salem, and then again, quick to book Mini-Mutations when that project was going.
	🎸 ♥ 11:13pm Austin Rich: Don has been a supporter for AGES. Yep, Holy Rodent was one of his first bands.
	🎸 ♥ 11:14pm Austin Rich: I have at least one vintage recording of Holy Rodent, when Cathead and them played a show together. 1995, I think?

A combination of collage, new experimental records and other bits and bobs, Mid-Valley Mutations is a tour through the mind of Austin Rich, who has been broadcasting in some form since 1998. Heavily influenced by Dr Demento, Don Joyce and old fashioned College Radio, Austin creates Audio Essays on a variety of subjects, and even just plays records, from time to time. Sometimes Live music and Interviews will grace the program, helping create a situation where you don't really know what you're going to hear, when you tune in. What you need to know is when you enter the Mid-Valley region, be prepared for the Musical Mutations... in whatever form they take.

I invited horridus to join us today, but I'm not sure if they are still online. they weren't really much on the internet, even when we were playing together.

Jeremy and I started messaging each other late at night, when neither of us could sleep. And then... well... collaborations happened.

	🎸 ♥ 11:10pm Austin Rich: If I remember correctly, that is a chimney cleaning brush, that he bought new for the purposes of attaching a contact mic to it, and running that through FX. He plucks it, and has it mounted on a board, that he can tap on, etc. Lots of options.

	🎸 ♥ 11:13pm Austin Rich: Don was the first person to book Cathead, the first band I ever played in, in the early 90s. He was also the first person to book MKUltramegaphone outside of Salem, and then again, quick to book Mini-Mutations when that project was going.
