The Ode to Joy bit reminds me when I was a youth and rather entranced by both the film and novel Clockwork Orange, so went and checked out a recording of Beethoven's Ninth from the public library. The librarian suddenly burst into singing that part really loudly at the checkout desk while rubber stamping the checkout form on the record. Something burned into my burned out brain.

@spodi yep. our river empties into the bay a couple hundred yards from where the Magothy opens into the bay. The boat was grounded not far off the other side of the mouth of the Magothy. I just looked up the distance across the mouth, so it looks like it was more like 2 miles. Close all the same.

My bride and I have enough troubles when we have to share a car. My car is a mint condition 2013 (well, was...), not a scratch on it. I'm one of those guys that parks halfway across the empty spaces in a parking lot. Mrs. Bastille started using it and promptly drove it across a lot being cleared and hit a stump. Sharing a bike would be a disaster

9 is the best number of gears on a cassette hub. 6 and 7 speed freewheels were great. 8 was enough, but not quite all there yet. 10 and up are persnickety to adjust, though I've read that the chains are actually stronger. But 9? The last generation of total Shimano compatibility. Mix and match road and MTB. Shift friction if you like. Stuff keeps working, needs no special tools, doesn't cost a lot, and can be got almost anywhere. Shimano 9-speed forever.

In fact, I read that the White Album is the best-selling album of the 1960s (!) ...Altho suggested that Rev9 isn't actually that outre in terms of the Avant-garde world ...& 'Tomorrow Never Knows' is really much more a groundbreaking piece for truly blending Avant & Pop elements in a completely new & different way in the world...

UM, in case you find yourself wishing you had more requests (before year end), i'd love to hear Immersion Four by Steve Roach. the Steve Reich made me think to ask (but just yesterday/last night, i was thinking about it). it's the soundtrack to my sleep... every night (played on repeat, for the past 2+ years, at least.)

hearing it during waking hours on WFMU would be nice. if not, nbd, i understand 🙏
