One time sitting with my parents at the kitchen table my mom was ragging my father because we didn't have more nice stuff. My father listened to this hectoring patiently until he blurted out "What do you expect, you married a pea picker!" My father had been a pea picker on the Northern Coast of California. He loved it. It was a very happy time in his life.
