"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:05pm tim from washington:

Jazz isn't free but jazz fanny packs are with a $75 donation to JA In The AM.

Avatar 12:36pm John Allen:

kevin-san, that is the attention to detail we appreciate around here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:36pm -жеи:

@Kevinsan, it's amazing how often Cousin Itt is in perfect time with whatever we're playing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:37pm Krys O.:

Knowledge comes from this signed release.

Yes, Ken and Itt works across all the streams too.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:38pm ChukAmok:

The rhythm of Cousin Itt's bopping is a bit like Mona Lisa's unavoidable gaze.
Avatar 12:39pm Hubig Pie:

I can no look at Cousin Itt gif too long, makin me dizzy.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm tim from washington:

There's some nice tinkling in this set.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:44pm Krys O.:

Any Tinklers on tap today, JA?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:49pm Handy Haversack:

Tapping the Tinklers is my second-favorite Sparks album.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:50pm Carmichael:

Funky flute.
Avatar 12:52pm John Allen:

high-pitched gibberish to go along with cuz it
Avatar 12:57pm Hubig Pie:

When I hear the words 'high pitched gibberish'
my mind always goes to a vision of Gabby Hayes
Avatar Swag For Life Member 12:57pm tim from washington:

Fay Victor is the vocal piece accompanied by the breathy saxomophone?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:01pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Any news on Bryce today? I hope he is resting comfortably in the marble mines.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm Carmichael:

I heard the doctor diagnosed him as "weird".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:03pm Handy Haversack:

Doctor.

*Doctor*.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:07pm tim from washington:

I am not yet convinced that Station Manager has not Ken poached Bryce's head for his head transplant experiments.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:19pm karlward:

This is mid pitched gibberish...

Right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:20pm tim from washington:

Is Joe Harriott a relative of Duane's? (Serious question). I know he's mentioned he has an uncle who was a jazz vocalist from the UK.
  1:24pm P-90:

JA in the BLENDERLAND
Avatar 1:24pm John Allen:

well Joe Hariott was from Jamaica (careered in UK) and Duane's uncle Derrick Harriott is from JAM so possible there's a relation
Avatar 1:25pm John Allen:

Karl we're gonna be leaning on you hard once next week rolls around
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm karlward:

There's Jersey Strong, and there's JAZZy strong
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm karlward:

I think we all know which one is stronger
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm karlward:

Hint: it's the one with the Hammer
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:26pm karlward:

Hint #2: it's the one with the Jan Hammer
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:27pm tim from washington:

I bet Joe Harriott is Duane's relative then.
Avatar 1:28pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

I love this jazz. Its real jazz. We have the heat on in the office at 7,040 feet altitude. Its still chilly in the mornings in Tijeras, NM. I think it was 45.
Avatar 1:28pm Mister Dobalina:

Smoooooooooooooth jazzzzzzz.
Avatar 1:28pm John Allen:

i'll be back to keeping things lively w. 3 minute cuts to keep the drivetime going, gonna need you karl. don't let me down
Avatar 1:29pm Mister Dobalina:

When I hear this sort of tune, I always remember the nYc station that played the smoothest jazz you've ever heard... 101.2, no longer around, over the air....I believe.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm karlward:

3 minute cuts so deep
Avatar 1:31pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

This Eric Closs is getting abstract.
  1:31pm bobobob dublon plasticland:

@ JA ...i think I have this on vinyl...is it the one where he's sittin outside in a park or ???
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:31pm karlward:

JA you know I recorded my own version of "WakeUp" but never sent it to you. It might fail the 3 minute test.
Avatar 1:32pm Mister Dobalina:

*101.9, my bad.
  1:33pm bobobob:

I think Eric Kloss mind have been blind not Kloss eyed
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:34pm Krys O.:

Harriott might have been a popular name in Jamaica. Not finding any familial connection.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:37pm karlward:

Kloss bringing it back
Avatar 1:37pm John Allen:

no bobobob this album cover is a bike race that is blurred to make the world seem faster
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:38pm Rock Ridge Chess Club:

goddamn how long is this song?
Avatar 1:39pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

The bass player on Eric Closs is really great also.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:41pm tim from washington:

@Krys - I don't want to make a sweeping generalization, of course. I remember Duane once describing his family's musical history. JA's description of Joe Harriott's background fit with Duane's description of a jazz singing relative with the same background.
  1:47pm bobobob:

..JA....i musta had a different lp then
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:48pm Handy Haversack:

Well, plans to move boats around fell through. Looks like I'm here all afternoon with you and the JAZZ and this apartment full of liquor. Hmmmmmmmmm.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm Carmichael:

I would like a skronk jazz station. All skronk, all the time.
  1:49pm P-90:

JA’s Jazz is sounding fine in the Friday Blender Hours
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:49pm ChukAmok:

Careful, Handy. That's beginning to sound like a John O'Brien novel.
  1:49pm bobobob:

JA ;;;;;; yeah I have Introducing Eric Kloss
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:51pm Handy Haversack:

Fortunately, there are too many pets sleeping on top of me to bother making a drink ... just ... yet ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:53pm karlward:

Handy: we believe in you
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:54pm tim from washington:

Plans, moving boats, apartment full of liquor? Are you a modern day rum runner, Handy?
  1:54pm Bobby from Dayton:

I love this dirty laundry loop so much.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 1:55pm Handy Haversack:

When you can't rum run, you rum walk. And when you can't rum walk, you rum crawl. And when you can't rum crawl, well, it might be time to move the rum boats around.

Second Saturday Sidewalk Dentistry
  2:00pm P-90:

Splitting the pot @John & Bryce
  2:01pm P-90:

Aw, Johns blowing Bryce a little musical kiss
  2:02pm bobobbob:

and Gerald Cleaver as the Beaver ....it's June already ...get used to it!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:03pm tim from washington:

Dentistry? Yeah right! JA and Bryce are just going to sell the Jazz Gas to hippies.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:05pm alanr:

nice programming today. listening from my home in Mexico city.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:06pm ChukAmok:

St'o'm's comin'.
Avatar 2:08pm John Allen:

dentistry is improv / lends to interpretation
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:09pm Hugo (NL):

oh yeah JA in the PM
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:10pm Handy Haversack:

I think that there's a real opportunity to replace Bryce's teeth with more interesting items. Does anyone know of a species of tiny snail that can also produce hour-long drone compositions? Asking for a friend.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm WoodsOfNH (now Maine):

The question is: Do I want Cecil Taylor dentistry or Anthony Braxton dentistry?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:11pm karlward:

I did a little improv dentistry on myself back in the day, broke four teeth when my bike disintegrated in Chinatown. Leave the improv dentistry to the pros like JA, don't try it yourself.
Avatar 2:12pm John Allen:

Braxton, he'll lay it all out for you in diagram before he starts
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:15pm karlward:

Me: But Mr. Braxton, the diagram isn't even a mouth, the diagram is the Tokyo subway map with little holes ripped out where some of the stations should be!

Braxton: Play as written.

Me: But...

Braxton: PLAY AS WRITTEN!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:16pm WoodsOfNH (now Maine):

Thinking about it more, maybe Keith Jarrett dentistry would be it. Goes better with the JazzGas(tm).
Avatar 2:17pm Mister Dobalina:

Needed to go ahead and clicky star fav this one.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm Ken From Hyde Park:

I remember that time when KBBL played "Sax on the Beach" by Bleeding Gums Murphy. Don't take dental advice from that guy.
  2:20pm P-90:

When Bryce gets marble teeth he should have the aggies put in up front where you can see them when he smiles, because they’re the prettiest
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:22pm WoodsOfNH (now Maine):

Bryce's implants will be tiny Tibetan spinning prayer wheels. Gets the spiritual job done and eliminates the need for flossing.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:28pm Ken From Hyde Park:

Or financial advice, for that matter. BGM spent his royalties on Fabergé eggs.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:29pm Krys O.:

@tim from washingon: There was a Jamaican jazz singer named Chester Harriott, no apparent relationship to Joe.
Avatar 2:29pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

@Alanr-you are at altitude in Mexico City. I'll bet the climate is pretty nice, not TOO hot like Florida?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm tim from washington:

Thanks for the information, Krys.
  2:32pm Robm:

Hello fellow AM in the PM listeners
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:33pm tim from washington:

Bryce is my money manager. I gave him access to all my financials. I can confidently tell you that I need never worry about that money again.
  2:33pm Jason from Screwston:

I thought the sprinter in front of me was backing up there for a second.
Avatar 2:42pm heatherita:

I like this. It's good.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm karlward:

This feels like that thing that happens where two radios are on different channels and it somehow pulls together
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:47pm tim from washington:

You said it Heatherita! I really want to get that Exek album.
Avatar 2:47pm heatherita:

he sounded to me like Robyn Hitchcock
Avatar 2:48pm Wild Neil||Peace All:

Wooden Shjips used to play a LOT on FMU about 5 years ago....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:50pm Krys O.:

Thanks, JA!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm tim from washington:

Thanks, JA!!!!!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm Handy Haversack:
