	7:59pm Dean: I've shared this before, but I attended six performances of Ghost Trance Music at Yoshi's in 1997. They appeared on Leo. Probably not in the cards for tonight's tribute, but the box of vocal/choral GTM, Syntax, on New Braxton House is amazing. But each "track" is committed to a disk and lasts ~1 hour.
	8:01pm Jeff Golick: Hi, Dean! Thanks for that. I haven't worked up the nerve to try the syntactic/vocal stuff yet. So, no, none of that tonight. But some hour-long tunes in store, nevertheless. I suspect the GTM stuff works even better when experienced live, vs on tape.

	8:06pm Dean: Hello, Jeff, marpay, and all. Live was indeed fairly astonishing, especially two shows a night, each a two drink minimum. I could observe Braxton "conducting," but also pairs of musicians choosing at any given moment to engage each other independent of the rest of the group. Syntax is truly remarkable, in some ways like an Ashley opera, because there are lyrics (or at least words) and the texture of multiple voices exhibits both a sense of integrity, as in a fugue, and of variegated distinct vocal styles.

	8:25pm Dean: As an aside, I suppose that with Braxton one could make up the most inane shit -- "You really have to hear his record of transcriptions of auctioneers scored for bicycle bells" -- and nobody would think twice.

And the Ghost Dance music would provide a forum to connect with the ancestors. That had a tremendous impact on me.”

	7:59pm Dean: I've shared this before, but I attended six performances of Ghost Trance Music at Yoshi's in 1997. They appeared on Leo. Probably not in the cards for tonight's tribute, but the box of vocal/choral GTM, Syntax, on New Braxton House is amazing. But each "track" is committed to a disk and lasts ~1 hour.

	8:06pm Dean: Hello, Jeff, marpay, and all. Live was indeed fairly astonishing, especially two shows a night, each a two drink minimum. I could observe Braxton "conducting," but also pairs of musicians choosing at any given moment to engage each other independent of the rest of the group. Syntax is truly remarkable, in some ways like an Ashley opera, because there are lyrics (or at least words) and the texture of multiple voices exhibits both a sense of integrity, as in a fugue, and of variegated distinct vocal styles.
