Good morning, Brian and all. Fred, are you sweltering? I read about serious heat waves in western Europe. We had sun and high 60s during the week but it's a rainy, 15 C weekend.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23am
Brian D:

Hello Don. My kinda weather there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23am
fred:

It was hot the past few days, but there just was a storm that cooled things down
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24am

60 Celsius?????? Don't think so!

Scott, apologies for mixing my units! As a scientist, I should know better. Yep, we had sun and 19-20 C during the week, 15 C on the weekend

No worries Don. 🍻😎🤙

I'd be interested to read The Patagonian Express now. It's been a long time since I read it, but I would have counted The Mosquito Coast (published a couple of years later) among my favourite novels at one point.

Hello Michael!

LiXiviated Life:

So maybe
that self editing done by Lizzo
was not about her
concern about one fan
but about Lizzo
wanting to appear as if she has concern about one fan.

Fred, it's national assembly today, right? Will be curious to see if the alliance of left parties makes a strong enough showing to hamper some of Macron's more extreme neolib plans. At least if I remember correctly that you're in France.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40am
fred:

Done. It was the runoff from last week, there shouldn't be another one for a while. Not that it's much of a hassle anyway
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40am
Brian D:

Dom Phillips obit, for those interested: www.washingtonpost.com...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:42am
fred:

@Don: You're right, and I hope Macron will not have a strong majority (though I'm not optimistic). Turnout should be low, so it's unpredictable
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:44am
Brian D:

Just curious, Fred, what's "low turnout" in France?
Avatar 4:45am
Michael of Cologne:

@Fred Praise of compulsory voting -- keeps things in the centre, for what it's worth.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:47am
fred:

@Brian: Turnout was 47% last week, which is low here
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:48am
Brian D:

Wow. 47% is considered pretty high here. Normally. 2020 was an exception.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:53am
fred:

A minister who is running for a seat called the left alliance "anarchists". She must not know anarchists very well. 5 parties uniting, even for a short while is not the anarchist MO. More like one group splintering into 5 every time they meet
  4:53am
LiXiviated Life:

I wonder if I wouldn’t be better off
not knowing about what’s going on
else where.
because
things don’t seem so good
for
humans
generally speaking
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:00am
Brian D:

Voting would seem antithetical to true anarchists, too, no?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:01am
fred:

@LiX: I found many times that knowing a little about current events elsewhere is a great way to make a connection with people I meet. A striking example was being approached by LDS people in the street and mentioning BYU, Joseph Smith and Romney's time in Paris totally changed the conversation (they basically forgot to talk about religion)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:04am
fred:

@Brian: You're very right on that, except on union votes for the anarcho-syndicalist subset, which is (relatively) strong here
  5:06am
LiXiviated Life:

humans running around trying to get other humans to think and act a certain way for whatever reason as if everything would be just fine if they did, when the reality is that no matter what we believe or how we behave, everybody dies at some point and nothing you think or do is going to stop that from happening.
everything falls apart
the universe is in entropy
why ruin the few moments of joy we may have
  5:11am
LiXiviated Life:

@fred
I know that you make a valid point but I don’t have a great deal of hope anymore.
You’re right
I’m just tired of the inhumanity
  5:17am
LiXiviated Life:

In about 9 minutes the sun will rise

Really enjoying this show. Unfortunately, in a few minutes I'll have to sign out because I have to review an EU project this week and have an insane amount of documents to read for it. Have a good Sunday!

Chris Abrahams, nice! I saw The Necks many times, but never him solo. I got a chance but missed it because of public transit trouble (I was told attendance was sparse, which makes me feel guilty)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:40am

Indeed he is @Cooh.

We'll be hearing more from Chris Abrahams. His new solo release sounds incredible.
