@3:41 Julie: Very nice of you! Yes, I am OK. Well, to be honest, i have had weird dizziness/headaches as an everyday occurrence since early June, the doctor said today it could be related to something with neck muscles. But it makes me feel confused. Sorry, I sound like an old moaner (Which I probably am)

I once got up extra early to get down to Turtles (the music store and SEATS outlet before Tower and Ticketmaster in the south) to get tix to Drivin' N' Cryin' at the Fox Theater in downtown Atlanta. There was a HUGE crowd there already! I was so bummed. And confused. Because it eventually dawned on me that they just didn't *seem* like a D'N'C' crowd. Finally the Turtles dude got there and recognized me and was like, "What are you DOING here?" I told him, and he said, "Man, these kids are all here for New Kids on the Block tickets! Go home and go back to bed, and I'll print out the first two Drivin' N' Cryin' tickets for you. Come back this afternoon."

Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

Could Chrissie Hynde have been ignored also because of a combination of sexisam and ageism as she was critically a couple of years too "old" - born in 1951. Of course age did not matter that much in the boys club, Brian James was even older and Joe Strummer only a year younger.

Yeah but all the first wave of Classic Punkers were born in the 1950s. She was U.S.American - but I have no data to parse what that meant (or didn't)...
Avatar 5:51pm
Photocopy Cha Cha 2000:

As a latecomer to the party that is Pretenders I gotta say Chrissie Hynde's songwriting and presentation is a lot stronger than that of many of the sacred cows of punk rock/new wave.

Vision Quest totally holds up, much more so than most of the 80s teen movies. It's a real interesting one -- set in Spokane! Madonna playing a bar set!

We saw Matthew Modine in /The Miracle Worker/ on Broadway through K8's work, and I went down to use the bathroom after and was very gratified to see the guy first in line and pressed against the stage door, Vision Quest poster in hand!

Courtney Love was in Straight to Hell, which just blows my mind.

Just saw folks discussing Chrissie Hynde. If you haven't read her book, you should. Far more interesting perspective on the punk years than most. Also documents her time re-Pretenders and creating the Pretenders. Really recommend it. Viv Albertine's book too - much more interesting perspective that the run of the mill punk retellings.
