When Ringo's daughter (stepdaughter?) graduated from Brown a while back, my friend said he walked past her office and everyone starting screaming. You can't help it. I would probably scream too.

Woo, when I saw John and Yoko in New York I had no choice but to flee in the opposite direction because otherwise I would have either screamed or melted or something embarrassing
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:14pm
Woo:

Eric, I would have done the same. I can't imagine suddenly having them just there.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:18pm

I've never seen Ringo live. I saw George on the Dark Horse tour and Paul in the late 90s.

Hey MOM WHIG. Happy Ringo birthday tomorrow!
  2:30pm
Gerry from Miami:

Hello to all the DENIZENS! Just got back from the grocery. But now I'm ready to rock with Denny! Ringo! Beatles! Their appearance on the Ed Sullivan Show in 1964 was a few days after my 17th birthday.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:31pm
Dennis Diken:

@Gerry from Miami - glad you're here! I believe the 1st Apple LP release was Wonderwall Music in 1968
  2:34pm
Gerry from Miami:

DENNY, I'll take your word for that! Maybe "Sourmilk Sea" was the first single.
Avatar 2:34pm
Eric R:

ah, Wonderwall, with the Remo Four! And Clapton, too.
Avatar 2:35pm
Jon Graboff:

The closest I ever came to Ringo was watching my mother playing string quartets every Wednesday night in my living room with the cellist and violist from the Ed Sullivan show. Those two guys were on stage with Paul when he performed Yesterday. They offered my brothers and me entry to the afternoon dress rehearsals to the Sullivan show… exept when the Beatles and Rolling Stones were on deck… crowd control for obvious reasons. We were bummed!
  2:36pm
Gerry from Miami:

MOM WHIG! Fancy finding you here! LOL!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:37pm
Woo:

love that story @Jon Graboff! So close you were.
Avatar 2:38pm
Jon Graboff:

@Woo. Close but no cigar!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:41pm
Dennis Diken:

it appears that the 1st Apple 45 was indeed "Hey Jude" / "Revolution" - "Sour Milk Sea" being the 3rd official release. I think the 1st 4 came out at the same time - along with John Foster & Sons Ltd.
Black Dyke Mills Band "Thingumybob" / "Yellow Submarine" and Mary Hopkin "Those Were the Days" / "Turn! Turn! Turn!"
  2:41pm
captain mike:

Hullo all of Denny’s Denizens today Since it’s Twee Moptop day what do all you Beatlemaniacs think is their worst song?
I vote “What a shame Mary Jane had a pain at the party” and Ringo’s “If you got Trouble” as Stinkaroo number one and 2
Avatar 2:42pm
Eric R:

yay Lesley!
Avatar 2:42pm
Michael Shelley:

Afternoon all - saw Ringo once - with Dennis Diken - one of the All Star Band shows (Colin Hay, Paul Carrack, John Waite, Sheila E.). Interestingly, the only time Ringo played without another drummer was on the songs Shelia E. came down front to sing.
Avatar 2:42pm

LesleyK:

Thanks for letting me fill in last week DD. I had a blast!!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:43pm

@captain mike, that's why they didn't release those songs at the time. I can't vote for a worst song. They're all fab.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:44pm
Dennis Diken:

hey captain mike! and Michael Shelley - I remember that and it was cool to see him hold the groove down by himself! @LesleyK - indeed! we'll do it again!
Avatar 2:45pm

@Dennis. "Folk musics' Bob Dylan" rings a bell as quotes go!

The Wolf. Nothing like him!

captain mike:

@woo Wish Maxwells Silver Hammer had the same fate
  2:49pm
Gerry from Miami:

Thanks, DENNY, for the Apple research. Seems the first 4 singles or so were released in a bunch. Technically, "Hey Jude/"Revolution" claims the crown as the "first."
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:49pm
Woo:

I will say I don't go out of my way to listen to Maxwell's Silver Hammer but it's part of Abbey Road so...
Avatar 2:50pm
Eric R:

@captain mike, picking a Paul song I'd just as soon never hear again I'd go with Honey Pie. Wild Honey Pie is much, much better (for me)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm
myron feld:

If I recall my Howlin' Wolf "London Sessions" liner notes correctly, he's credited as "Richie" on that track.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:52pm
Stu Rutherford:

I'm going to go with "Long And Winding Road" as my least favorite.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm
myron feld:

"Rocky Raccoon" here as TWBS.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:55pm
Stu Rutherford:

@myron - You're correct regarding that "London Sessions" credit.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm
Woo:

Revolution 9. I remember listening to that on Christmas morning 1968 and my 9 year old self thinking WTF? I still enjoy hearing it. Turn me on dead man.
  2:56pm
captain mike:

Thanks for all the input gang I’m guilty of being obsessed with the Fab Four since ‘63 and an occasional reality check is needed like when Handsome Dick Manitoba wished Sgt
Pepper NEVER taught that band to play
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:56pm

Klaus on bass for that one Howlin' Wolf track as well. Watts & Wyman are the rhythm section for the rest of the tracks.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:11pm
Dennis Diken:

@Jon Graboff - news we can use!
  3:11pm
Gerry from Miami:

Denny, I had forgotten that Ringo played on that Stephen Stills number, "We Are Not Helpless." Stills went all out on the production of his first solo album! BTW, being a drummer yourself, what is your opinion and the general consensus of Zak Starkey as the current drummer with the Who?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:14pm
myron feld:

"Tell Me Why" among the swinginest of the boys' songs. Love it so much.
Avatar 3:15pm
Jon Graboff:

is it just me, but what's with the distortion on the vocals towards the end of the bridge on Tell Me Why'?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:15pm
Dennis Diken:

@Gerry from Miami - I only know Zak's playing from live The Who shows, he's quite good, methinks. but I'd like to check out other work by him. has he recorded with Oasis? or others you might know about?
Avatar 3:16pm
Jon Graboff:

Does anyone know who's playing electric guitar on Ringo's Theme? Vic Flick?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:17pm
Dennis Diken:

@myron feld - you will not get an argument from me where
"Tell Me Why" is concerned! one of my TOP faves by them!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:19pm
Dennis Diken:

@Jon Graboff - I think Vic Flick is a pretty good guess! anybody know for sure?
Avatar 3:20pm
LesleyK:

I also love Tell Me Why! And all of the Hard Day's Night album
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22pm
Stu Rutherford:

LOVE Ringo's performance on "Long Tall Sally"!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:23pm
Dennis Diken:

@LesleyK - yeah, AHDN might be my fave Beatles LP. @Stu - it's totally his best performance, hands down, IMHO!!
Avatar 3:23pm
Jon Graboff:

If this version of Long Tall Sally was one take, who's bashing away on the piano. Sounds like two guitars going on from what I can hear.
Avatar 3:24pm
Jon Graboff:

never mind the previous message. they did have an extra track to use even early on
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm
Dennis Diken:

@Jon Graboff - probably George Martin, he was their go to pianee dude back then. and yeah, coulda been an overdub.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:25pm
Stu Rutherford:

@Jon - George Martin on piano on that track.
Avatar 3:26pm
Jon Graboff:

@Dennis. Ah. Thanks. Even for an accomplished piano player, it's nice the Mr. Martin could slug it out in the trenches!
Avatar 3:27pm
MOM WHIG:

Another GREAT one from Meet The Beatles LP
Avatar 3:27pm
LesleyK:

It won't be long ...another one of my faves.
  3:27pm
Gerry from Miami:

DENNY, Zak Starkey has performed with a LOT of other artists aside from the Who. But I am not familiar with much of this work. It's a thankless role to replace Keith Moon. Ask Kenny Jones!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29pm
Dennis Diken:

@LesleyK - re "It Won't Be Long" - mine too, coulda been killer single

Gerry from Miami:

DENNY, is your tour with the Smithereens still ongoing? I got to see your lead singer, Marshall Crenshaw, at Magic Mountain in southern California, back when his first LP came out. Eons ago! The evening's host was Jerry Mathers, the BEAV!

@Gerry from Miami - yes, we go out mostly for extended weekends. do you live in Miami? no plans to head there right now, alas...
Avatar 3:39pm

It's always nice to see that interview clip where Paul talks about the first time that Ringo sat in with them and the other lads turned to each other and though "wow".
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm
myron feld:

as a psychedelic pair with "She Said She Said" I'm hoping for "Tomorrow Never Knows" -- one of my very top Ringo sessions. So simple, so direct.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:40pm
Dennis Diken:

@MOM WHIG - indeed, it was a big kick! the kit wasn't old but the cymbals were ancient!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm

Hi Dennis.
If you can't get Marshall Crenshaw, I think the lead singer from Parquet Courts sounds just like Pat DiNizio.
Hi Mom
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41pm
Dennis Diken:

@Jon Graboff - indeed, that is totally cool! @myron - next time! do you think "TNK" is a loop?
Avatar 3:41pm
Jon Graboff:

@Dennis. If I remember the picture of you, it was the Let It Be double tom kit. Correct?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42pm
myron feld:

@Jon: I was in a band when that happened. Our drummer, with whom we weren't very happy, missed soundcheck so the drummer from the other band sat in for it. We all looked at each other like "so THAT'S how the songs should sound!" We made the switch the next week.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43pm
Dennis Diken:

no, I did fondle the "Let It Be" kit (you've seen those pics) but I played a newer job of his

@Jon, how would you define "no one"? Frere Jacques comes to mind, and the 3 part This Boy....I could talk about the vocal arrangements all day!

OLD MAN MUNTZ made a mint off those cartridges, didn't he? Went from the original 4-track to 8-track to cut his tape costs in half!! Not the most reliable of audio formats. And they even rearranged the order of the songs to even out the timing of each pair of stereo tracks, sometimes cutting tunes in half!

here's a vocal thing I noticed awhile back. At the end of It Won't Be Long, Paul goes up an extra third and I'm sure he got the idea from Til I Kissed You
