I was just reading about the contents of the time capsule. There were rumors of it containing a tape of "Saturday Night Fever", a Playboy from 1979 and 1700 Quaaludes, but apparently that was a joke and there was not capsule at all.

i'm happy and surprised there's a lizard music release at wfmu...even happier it sounds amazing!
i bought a cd in the late 90s because i liked the package. "lobster" it's called. i really liked it and played it for many people but from that time until a week ago i've never heard their music nor seen or heard any mention of lizard music on wfmu or anywhere else, besides my own cd.

Though we also work in energy storage, this sand battery is something completely different, and it looks interesting. It sounds like a longer-term, higher-tech version of the storage radiators that were installed in Germany in maybe the 70s or 80s. They would heat up a reservoir at night while electricity was cheap and the stored heat would head the house during the day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58am

Ah, I wondered, Don. I knew it was in your line.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08am

Read a little further in the sand battery article. Although the company is in Kankaanpää, the founders were at my university until 2020 and the development was done at a former pulp mill in Tampere with local support. So pretty cool!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:30am

That's why I thought it might have been your work, Don. Apparently Finland at the cutting edge of energy conservation.

Finland has one of the highest proportions of engineers to population and one of the highest rates of patent filings relative to population in the world. Definitely a place where lot of innovation is going on.
Meanwhile in other Finnish news, a photo of our prime minister starting her summer vacation at the Ruisrock festival in Turku, wearing cutoffs and a leather jacket, is going viral.

I am sure there are lots of shit commentaries from angry old white guys who can't accept the fact that a woman in her 30s is doing a far better job that the old white guys who went before her. Just like they called her "the cashier girl" because she worked at a supermarket when she was young to help support her way through school. I'd say that pointing out that she worked and paid her own way should be a compliment, but not in the world of right-wing "setämies" culture.

It is a ridiculous proposition to leave Johnson as Prime Minister until a new leader is elected by a few hundred thousand Conservative party members. We seem to take our lead from the US with petulant leaders who cannot say sorry & mean it.
Johnson will undermine things even more in the next few months more than he has done already.
Did see a cartoon the other day showing a gravestone with 'HERE LIES BORIS JOHNSON' on it. Ambiguously correct.

What's happening to Boris should have happened here in the US in, say, 2019. A few hundred thousand more people might be alive today if it had.
