Bob Seger-like, I got out of Denver early this morning. The heat there was three digits now and then over the past few days. Berkeley is currently mid-60s.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:09pm

thing about EU is they don't have air conditioners everywhere like we do (and folks publicly ridiculing trying to cope with the heat as well)

Of course, for the folks who live around the Alps region, it varies. the ones who live in valleys in the shadow of the mountains have little to worry about as far as heat exposure is concerned, but still have to worry about the risk of avalanches and landslides reaching their safe havens.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:21pm

is Berkeley in the valley? I've never been
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:24pm

My office building is the newest green generation. Summer heat is stored under ground for winter heating and vice versa. Had a comfy 70°F all day.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24pm

Have to learn how to pollinate my tomatoes (I have a net over the vegetables, which keeps them from being eaten by the many deer near here, but also keeps the bees out).

We have the good fortune to have sand soils walled in by clay layers. The sand readily accepts water and keeps in in place. Like a giant thermos. Keep the warm at one end and the cool on the other.
  3:28pm
Dean:

Berkeley is on the east side of the San Francisco Bay. Directly east across the Bay is Marin County, south of which is San Francisco. We're quasi-coastal, I guess, since our coast is not the Pacific Ocean, but the Bay.
Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:29pm

Avatar 🦇 Swag For Life Member 3:37pm
dreamyandseedy:

I haven't noticed any humidity. Central TX and a lot of other places in TX are in a big drought right now, we've had about 3 inches of rain all year, so that makes the heat all the worse. And when isolated storms roll through I get nervous that lightning is gonna start a fire.

Another literary allusion, perhaps more obvious than the Bradbury, this Pink Floyd.
  4:19pm

I'm sure a bunch of the tunes you play connect to literature. Today, at least, the two connections that strike me are science fiction/fantasy.

I played Opal for a former boyfriend and he texted me like years later out of the blue, long after i had deleted his number lol, to say "thanks for telling me about Opal" and that still makes me happy. i loved Happy Nightmare Baby but he always like Early Recordings. Introducing people to music that they will enjoy for the rest of their life is the best gift ever! Another reason why wfmu is so great.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:35pm

Hey Bas.
  4:35pm

Is that a genuine Biblical allusion, David, or are you referring to Phil Collins? Either way, you're on to something. The history of literature is no doubt rife with allusions to allusions, Kevin Bacon-like.
