	1:01pm still b/p: I was at a lakeside camp compound today -- former summer camp, now a wedding venue. I was there just to deliver something and scoot after a few minutes. Sitting at that piney shore all day, taking occasional swim, and listening to FMU would be a potent summer idyll. PSI. Tires need theirs for smooth riding, and I need mine.

	1:27pm Dean: There must be something to these convergences of age and date. But I never expected I'd associate Ian Curtis with my marriage.
	1:30pm egould: This is definitely “post punk”. I think JD gets referred to as goth not based on the music, but on depressed/suicidal Ian Curtiss.
	1:31pm Julie: I don't really know how to define postpunk, is it a real sound or based more on era?
	1:32pm Julie: like I'd call In Isolation post punk, but they are from now so VERY post punk
	1:33pm Julie: and goth, 80s goth anyway, for sure comes out of that.
	1:34pm Dean: Some bands once upon a time commonly associated with (mid-to-late-'70s) punk really don't sound punk at all. Take Television. They were working pre-punk, their career otherwise coincided with punk, and yet had they appeared later we would likely regard them as post-punk.

	1:35pm Julie: people often categorize the Damned as goth, but that was because of their luck they were more punk (or post punk?) though they do have some gothy sounding moments
	1:36pm egould: Post punk to me is more ‘angular’ sounding; modern and anti-rock. Yet not new wave. Punk was a throwback to early rocknroll.
	1:36pm Julie: their LOOK not their luck...sheesh
	1:36pm Julie: yes punk was very rock and roll!
	1:37pm egould: Post punk was re-building rock music, stripped of he excesses of 70’s arena rock.
	1:38pm Dean: Arguably, one of the early artists assuming a goth look was Patricia Morrison (also Ronaine), aka Pat Bag of The Bags. She went on to join Sisters of Mercy, which sealed the deal, I suppose. And now she is married to Dave Vanian, vocalist for The Damned. Pat used to work the cosmetics counter at a department store in Whittier. We'd hang out there and she'd visit us in a nearby record store where we worked. Sweet lady.
	1:39pm Dean: The Damned's first album is quintessential punk.
	1:41pm Julie: Patricia's look is wonderful. Also Siouxsie was looking like that when hanging around with the Pistols
	1:42pm Dean: Er, Rainone, not Ronaine, which sounds like a hair treatment product. Right, the eyeliner! But Dave Vanian sported that, too, on the cover of DAMNED DAMNED DAMNED.

	1:45pm TDK60: One thing that turned me off was Joy Division's early flirtation with fascist imagery. / Yeah, I thought Siouxsie was an early Goth. Tho, I know little gothic history. But music labels? Sometimes very useful, other times too restricting. Like Gang of Four-- new wave or punk? Both, it seems.

	1:49pm Dean: Gang of Four's first album ushered in post-punk for me. Seminal goth bands were Christian Death and Kommunity FK, both from the LA area.

	1:33pm Julie: and goth, 80s goth anyway, for sure comes out of that.
	1:34pm Dean: Some bands once upon a time commonly associated with (mid-to-late-'70s) punk really don't sound punk at all. Take Television. They were working pre-punk, their career otherwise coincided with punk, and yet had they appeared later we would likely regard them as post-punk.

	1:35pm Julie: people often categorize the Damned as goth, but that was because of their luck they were more punk (or post punk?) though they do have some gothy sounding moments
	1:36pm egould: Post punk to me is more ‘angular’ sounding; modern and anti-rock. Yet not new wave. Punk was a throwback to early rocknroll.

	1:38pm Dean: Arguably, one of the early artists assuming a goth look was Patricia Morrison (also Ronaine), aka Pat Bag of The Bags. She went on to join Sisters of Mercy, which sealed the deal, I suppose. And now she is married to Dave Vanian, vocalist for The Damned. Pat used to work the cosmetics counter at a department store in Whittier. We'd hang out there and she'd visit us in a nearby record store where we worked. Sweet lady.
