Matt from New Orleans:

I hadn’t heard Red passed. Hadn’t spoken to him in a while but he was a real nice guy. Knew him for years without realizing I knew him. He used to be a conductor on the LIRR line near where I grew up. Saw him pretty regularly on the train and we became friendly but usually talked about The Mets. Only years later when I met him at The Stomp after reading his blogs for a while did we realize that we knew each other from the other context.

Hi everyone, welcome to the show, paying tribute to my fellow collector & researcher Red Kelly who unexpectedly passed late last week.

Oh hi Matt, that's crazy he was your conductor!

Matt from New Orleans:

Hey WR. It was weird. When I saw his pic on his blog and was like he looks familiar but dismissed it and forgot about it.

SO MANY BLOGS :)

Matt from New Orleans:

Lattimore Brown was quite charismatic when I saw him perform here at Red’s instigation. I can’t say he was a polished performer as he hadn’t been on a stage in decades at that point but he got better and better as the set went along.
Avatar 11:19pm
Kris Holmes:

That's great, wish I could have seen him
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:26pm
Matt from New Orleans:

It was something Red did around The Stomp but wasn’t part of it. Red did bring Lattimore to The Stomp and he ended up on stage.

doctorjazz:

Great Lavette!

Red has 6 blogs on blogger. I looked at a few of them, seems like writings in the teens and late zips.

Not sure I agree with Jerry Wexler but dig the earlier Solon Burke stuff
Avatar 11:53pm

What did Jerry say?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:54pm

He said Solomon was the greatest male Soul vocalist at some point
Avatar 11:55pm

Solomon definitely up there though
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:56pm
Matt from New Orleans:

Definitely. He’s another guy like Joe Simon who’s sort of been forgotten.
