@ultradamno, a brave choice -- I agree, but this song in particular (as well as the title track) were *savaged* by reviewers when it came out. Idiots.

Happy Yodel Day!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:16pm
ultradamno:

I never understood...I kind of thought she took the Fun House model (start with your rockers on side a, get looser with the last track and get increasing experimental over the b-side) and really innovated on it.

Handy Haversack:

Hey there, Dan and all the Fried!

Listening on the QT here in my aunt's house (they're a little hard of hearing).

We were listening to the Charred premium in the car today. So good!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:23pm
Dan Bodah:

@WHH, and a Happy Yodel Day to you and all Fryers too!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:24pm
Dan Bodah:

@Handy, so glad to hear you enjoy the Charred! There's some screaming coming up a little later for your aunt that might get through...

I've been trying to remember the name of this track that has a heavy auctioneer rambling on, SubPop maybe, "That's My Cow", or some such thing.

Dan, is the Portishead cover on Charred full of human beatboxing? K8 and I were debating.

Captain Beefhart so iconoclastic. Funny enough I didn't really appreciate them until I started listening to Caroliner Rainbow. Before that (like in high school) I just thought they were a side listen for deadheads

"Beefheart claimed the label he and his band were signed to, A&M Records, dropped them after co-owner Jerry Moss heard the song and declared it "too negative"[4] for his teenage daughter to listen to. Beefheart's vocals, while recording the final version for the album, shattered the microphone" en.wikipedia.org...

It should be noted that Van Vliet can be an unreliable narrator of his own story (the controversies over the Strictly Personal mix, for example, as recounted in John French's book see him backing up all over himself)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:49pm

This is true. But keep in mind, he was talking to journalists. One on one he was quite pleasant.

speaking of Captain Beefheart, while going down the rabbithole I noticed they played at the Fantasy Fair and Magic Mountain Music Festival in the summer of 1967 at Mount Tamalpais. that must have been incredible, the lineup was deep!

Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:54pm
