Hi Brian, Sem and friends.

Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 12:20pm
Handy Haversack:

Definite soft spot for Bossanova. Though I think Come On Pilgrim might still be my favorite. But seeing them on the Doolittle tour when I was fifteen is a pretty foundational experience for me. Twenty-five years of smoking partly because Kim Deal tucked a cigarette between the strings on her bass and I completely melted.

Well, congrats, Stanley!

G'mornin yo.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 12:36pm
Diana in Hungary:

Yes, Pod is perfect. It's my favorite too. But some of their later releases are really interesting.

I had the joy of contributing lyrics to the Breeders' song "Head to Toe." (Josephine Wiggs wrote most of the lyrics, but she took a little piece that she liked from a song I had written and sent them--and it became the chorus of the song. They asked permission in advance, I signed a contract, and they gave me credit.) One of those fun things I never would have expected to happen.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 12:36pm
Handy Haversack:

Oh, also, for those keeping score at home: I managed to get to a hardware store (only twelve miles away once they reopened the bridge over Ruby Creek) and found a flexible grasping tool. Two minutes of work, and the gas/petrol can parts were out of the gas/petrol tank! Right tool, right job. Thanks for all the advice and calming presence last week!

Also:

"You lied to me, Edward! There is a Swansea! And other places, too! You kept them from me!"

In the US these days, whenever a place has people on strike, they often have a large inflatable rat. I heard some stories about it. This 1960s StudioOne (?) type stuff - it's in that category of spirit infused & Authentic Musics like Country Blues & GarageRawk. Sure they had their own market & ambitions - but it's so utterly more than that.

Crazy for Toots!!!…(got to see him once, great performer)!

Oh yes Toots & The Maytals! Seen them on stage, some 200 yards from my house. Fantastic show and a fond memory.

black uhura was pretty much my gateway to reggae. (Peter Tosh was technically first, but uhuru solidified it)
...then the same friend who turned me onto uhuru played garvey's ghost for me.

it was a revelatory moment

I think a most popular rum in Jamaica is Wray and Nephew 68% over-proof white rum. Amongst those whose first mood altering choice is not ganja. Mon.

Handy, had to look up Corn and Oils. Thanks for that. I do some work for a distillery here, and naturally, this being Nova Scotia, dark rum is made.
*one bottle in three of spirits sold in this province is rum of one kind or another* Thank you, Goddess Molasses.

I saw Peter Tosh open for the Rolling Stones at an outdoor show in '78. He came onstage with the fattest reefer I've ever seen, billowing huge plumes of smoke. He asked the audience if we liked the ganja (duh), and launched into Legalize It.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 2:53pm
Sem:

And thank you, David, for the one hour tour you can really dance to. See you and all aboard next time 'round the track, if the fates allow.
Avatar 🚂 Swag For Life Member 2:53pm
Handy Haversack:

Well, now I have to find some Nova Scotian rum and try it, Sem!

C&O a definite favorite around here.

Unrelatedly, we saw license plates from I think six or seven provinces on this road trip, after seeing only a few Ontario trucks last year. And including Prince Edward Island, which was a thrill.

Also, forty-six states!
