In general, people in SE Asia like things extremely sweet and I think just tend use that as the default when overseas. But here, the sweetness level ordered by the customer, from anywhere between not sweet and very sweet.

@βrian : With no AC - the physically immobilizing heat seems to have passed for now - actually under a throw-over now... The little town is having something of a Fest & I'm keen to see some Native American dancing in the park & one local band I've been wanting to assess...

years ago 2 things were different: i lived in nj (and my gf lived near morristown);
and, in nj (morristown) there was a "vegan" asian restaurant named "mayflower" that created miracles on a daily basis.
  8:07pm C in Thailand:

@coelacanth∅... yes, made to order. For example, Thai tea or coffee could be ordered not sweet... usually with evaporated milk, but black as well. Condensed milk, sugar or syrup if sweetness is wanted. In Vietnam coffee could be ordered black (with sugar on the side, added by the customer). The condensed milk one usually at the bottom of the cup, and stirred in by the customer depending how much sweet they want it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:10pm coelacanth∅:

hmmm.
Thanks C (iT) - i wonder if the thai or vietnamese places here would make it to order then...
i don't mind a little sweet, but i think i also just dislike the flavour of condensed milk.

  8:14pm C in Thailand:

But sweet is still sort of the default, especially in the countryside. Like, occasionally, I might order not sweet, the preparer will repeat it but still start to put syrup in the beverage. For US, you should be able to order as well, as long it's not some instant mx. My wife and I do when we visit. You could order, for example, Vietnamese coffee black, not sweet, add your own milk.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:14pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

@βrian : In NewHampshuh I'm afraid - but UpperVally of course is on the river border. Was also *born* in Vermont...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20pm Franco Twinkie:

I was across the street. My order was finished fairly quick, but the television was so great I wanted to stay. It was a Vietnamese guy eating in Bangkok. First he was on the klong eating and you could see water taxis behind him, then he went to Chatuchak, the outside market. I love that place! I use to wander around in there looking at all the bizarre stuff.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:20pm Revolution Rabbit Nov63:

...Q: Why does Maine not fall into the Atlantic ?

  8:20pm C in Thailand:

@caelacanth∅... Vietnamese coffee isn't really that special. It's just made with a metal filter thing (ca phe phin), which are pretty cheap. You could buy one, use any coffee and test if you like the texture.
