I loved that movie, SOP..

I don;t think children are much harmed by the cussing, but it bugs me when adults or youths let fly with loud swearing when kids are nearby. The indifference and rudeness of it.

if i had children i'd be far more selective about the circumstances in which i utter "swear" words, but i certainly would not treat them as "naughty" or forbidden....however, it pisses me off that the courts have said it's okay to fly giant banners, both on your front lawn and on public streets, that say FUCK Biden.
very irresponsible of them.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm

Sounds like steel string guitars playing this Mozart-usually classical guitar playing is on nylon strings. Like the sounds.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:39pm
melinda:

@coel vulgar thought it may be we should all be allowed to say 'fuck President-X'. Like flag burning.
  10:41pm
Dean:

Nuts, I missed the discussion up til now.

I have children. I curse frequently, at least hourly, and loudly. My kids, 11 and 16, get it. The 11yo is nervous about "bad words," while the 16yo, who consumes a fat supply of rap, has almost no compunction. I try to be sensitive to the biases of my cursing. Hence, I tend not to regale my kids with "cocksucker" or "son of a bitch," both of which make me uncomfortable. But "fuck," "shit," and "goddamn" are pretty ordinary around here.

I wish there were more "FUCK Biden" banners. "FUCK Trump," "FUCK Hilary," "FUCK Newsom," "FUCK Pelosi," ...fuck 'em all. It's not irresponsible at all. These are genuinely meaningful expressions of political viewpoints.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:42pm

@Dean agreed

@Dean, we take a similar approach around here. words like “bitch” etc are off limits but the fucks can fly freely
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:44pm
Sam Segal:

@Dean, get the 16 year-old near the radio in about 10 minutes. I plan to say the word "fuck" live on air.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:45pm
doctorjazz:

I don't curse much, around the kids or elsewhere (less around the kids), just never picked up. They don't hesitate dropping "fucks" around me, though ...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:46pm

Elton Dean, very nice (our Dean hipped me to him).
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47pm

Deans know how to spot a good Dean.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47pm

Seems of you're name is Elton, you need another 1st name to follow it.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:47pm
coelacanth∅:

Thank you.

  10:54pm
Dean:

I suspect all of us have been influenced by Carlin's canonic rant. More personally, I came to terms with bad words when I took my parents to a Frank Sinatra concert. The opening act was a popular comedian, a guy who appeared regularly on talk shows and other television offerings. The audience at the newly covered Universal Studios Amphitheater consisted of a cross-section of Southern Californians, including a lot of kids. The comedian's act was filthy, replete with "bad words." At that point I realized how hypocritical we can be as putative authorities. There in fact are no barriers to cussing. Say whatever the fuck you want to say.

Having said that, I'm inclined to note that "Shitweasel whorebaloney!" crosses a line. How fucking dare you, _Ike_!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 10:59pm
coelacanth∅:

ngh nah it just has struck me as disrespectful to people who choose to not raise their kids with those words, or maybe more importantly that approach to politics. (mindless, inarticulate approach that is)
but really it's not a big deal.
i feel passionate that children, people - should not be protected from everything uncomfortable or even dangerous; hence the contradiction i referred to.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:00pm
coelacanth∅:

SAM SAID FUCK!

Sounds about right to me, DL. Swearing: the hot sauce of language.
  11:09pm
Dean:

melinda, you are so right. But why do we have to feel that we're being merely *allowed* to swear in this circumstance, rather than by default under any circumstance, including on regulated airwaves?
