Hello Brian, hello listeners.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:22am
fred:

Dancing Barefoot is one of these songs I can recognize within seconds (and I didn't grow up with it)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:24am
Brian D:

Clay Pidgeon played it earlier this week, Fred, and it's been in my head ever since.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:32am
fred:

Though the one I ID fastest is Purple Rain. The first chord is more than enough (I did grow up with that one I guess)
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:36am
Brian D:

This is interesting exercise, Fred. I'm not sure what my song would be.

Chris Crisco:

Walk Away Renee
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42am
fred:

There were studies showing than people can identify a familiar song within seconds, and the decade an unknown song was released even faster (might be BS, most MIR studies are small scale and very biased)
  3:45am
Chris Crisco:

Pretty Ballerina too
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:46am
Brian D:

There was a gameshow here in the US (and elsewhere?) called "Name That Tune." The objective was to name a song in as few notes as possible.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:50am
fred:

@Brian: Don't you know that it's different for girls?

Twink was new to me. I enjoyed it and will follow up at some point.

Good morning all. Probably a number of songs I'd recognize immediately. Not even necessarily favorites, stuff like "Smoke on the Water" or "She Loves you"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:54am
Brian D:

I was thinking maybe "London Calling" for me. Hello Geoffrey ad Don.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:55am
fred:

(Apologies to Joe Jackson)
@Brian: don't forget the legal ID in a few minutes
  3:55am
Chris Crisco:

On the other hand Maria Bartiromo has not shall we say aged well
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:57am
Brian D:

Me? Forget the ID?
  3:57am
tom tom the pipers son:

didn't joey ramone record a song about maria bartiromo?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:58am
Brian D:

I think Maria B looks pretty good. The less she says the better, however.
Avatar 3:59am
Don in Tampere:

There are probably lots of old-time fiddle tunes that I recognize immediately too, at least if they leave out the "potatoes" intro.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:59am
_Ike_:

Mmm, potatoes.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00am

Indeed he did, @tom tom.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:00am

I can think of another who aged worse, but that's local bias (the initials BB)

  4:12am

@TomTom yeah that was when she was still the Money Honey. I remember hearing the song on Vin Scelsa's WFUV show and Vin was saying how Joey was getting into the stock market..
  4:18am
Chris Crisco:

I think Joey was there live on Vin's show at the time.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:18am

The Ramones had some weird political views.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:20am
fred:

@Chris Crisco: I first read that as "Joey was getting into the stork market". Must be the Glen Passaic speaking...
  4:23am
Chris Crisco:

@Brian Vin was pretty tight with Joey so I imagine Joey was fairly progressive. I remember Vin saying he didn't have much of a rapport with Johnny or DeeDee.

well said fred
Avatar 4:31am
Don in Tampere:

My understanding was that Joey was pretty progressive, and that Johnny was quite right-wing, and that it was a source of conflict in the band. Apparently Johnny refused to play on "Bonzo Goes to Bitburg"
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:40am
Brian D:

From people I know who knew them, Johnny was right-wing and mean about it, and Joey didn't have mean bone in his body. So, that put the two of them in conflict.

Sheila B will soon be off the schedule, but she played some Iranian music
Avatar Swag For Life Member 5:21am
Brian D:

Indeed, Sheila B spent part of her childhood in Iran.
  5:24am
Chris Crisco:

I think the rationale behind the JCPOA was that in time Iran would organically become more democratic. Do you think that was a possibility and our Insane Clown Trump by reneging on the deal strengthened the hard line theocrats to the point where that is a hopeless case now?
Avatar 5:26am
Don in Tampere:

I have two Iranian doctoral students, and they are not optimistic that things will get better any time soon, even though the vast majority of people in the country hate the government. If the west had not intervened to depose Mossadegh and install the Shah, things would probably look very different.

Morphe, though I am glad that Ukrainian refugees have been welcomed most places (apparently they are having more trouble in the UK, which has turned into Xeonophobia Central), the double standard really pisses me off. I was active in a political refugee support group during the 2015/16 wave and got to be friends with some wonderful people, who have much to offer Finland.
  5:41am
amir:

@cc I believe it doesn't necessarily have anything to do with the JCPOA. When the whole system is corrupted and people who rule here are all illiterate people working thanks to nepotism, nothing would help the poor people. a case in the point is that the a considerable amount of people can't afford the basic needs and meanwhile the government brutally arrest women for not having hijab on.

Currently a temporary stop to intake of Ukranian refugees in 12 (I think) of 16 federal states (Bundesländer). The population in general remains welcoming so far.

@cc well with sanctions the lives of people are surely effected. but on the other hand it's good because it kinda put a pressure on these mullahs since people can't really protest and do the same thing(it happened two years ago, long story short they cut off the whole country's internet and killed people on the street, yes, killed, even kids.)

Don - it was recently stated[not confirmed] in Ireland that "non-white" refuges were sleeping on the floors, children too while newly arrived Ukrainens were getting beds and cots. For certain though, the racial division includes different rights: Ukranien's can get immediate work permits, but others do not; they get shelter and meals but very little daily pocket money= that is called "Direct Provision."
