Death
Disaster
I guess I haven’t missed much

Sadly, no, Lix.

Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:28am

New wave is correct. Now you're making me wonder, though, Tom Tom...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:29am
Brian D:

I'll listen to the clip again at first opportunity.

tom tom the pipers son:

when it started , i thought she said new age then later new wave
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:33am
fred:

I missed the end of Bryce's show to go to a concert, but most of it (especially the first piece) would have fit in Bryce's show, so it was a seamless transition
  3:35am
LiXiviated Life:

Why is it that
I need seem to always need
To turn on subtitles
to understand the English speaking
on TV
when it’s the only language I know?
I mean, it’s their language
you’d think they could learn to speak it clearly.

My wife says the same thing @Lix. Though, to be fair, they say the same about us.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:41am

@Brian: Any thoughts about the Chile referendum? It's confusing to me
  3:41am
tom tom the pipers son:

liked how stephen colbert described desantis' bussing of migrants as human trafficking
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:42am
Brian D:

Plenty Fred. Confusing to me as well. Seems to directly contradict the election result.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:43am
Brian D:

It also saddles them with the same, very flawed constitution. You have to wonder if there were "outside influences" on the vote.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 3:53am
fred:

I know a guy who's been supposedly working on a thesis about Godard for like close to 30 years. His excuse was that there was always more that changed the perspective. He has no excuse now
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03am
Ike:

Good evening.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03am
Brian D:

Well, there's always an excuse, Fred. You know there will be "director's cuts" coming out soon...
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:03am
Brian D:

Ike!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:07am
fred:

One of the pieces on that contemporary music show that made me miss part of Bryce's show was an audience performance of a U2 song on kazoo (helpfully provided). That was fun, stupid but not stupid
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:08am
Ike:

I'm much more of a cat person, but somebody at Hell Gate came up with the ridiculous headline "Dogs Don’t Belong in New York City" and I was reminded of how much social media pushes journalism to depend on cheap outrage to drive clicks. Nice try, Hell Gate, but I am *not* clicking on that.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:10am
Brian D:

Fred, sometimes stupid is fun. And Ike, I'm glad I didn't see that Hell Gate headline. I'd have cancelled my sub.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:11am
Brian D:

@Tom Tom, if you're still here, the France24 host DID say "new age." Ugh. Live broadcasting is tough, as I prove weekly.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:13am
Ike:

Such storied local journalists as Ross Barkan seem to depend on this tactic as well. Lately I see a number of silly hot takes from him. I wonder if Mark has covered this on Techtonic, because I believe social media helps drive this inclination. Hot takes abound on Twitter and Facebook and people engage more often with things that outrage them. Yikes.
  4:14am
tom tom the pipers son:

glad i wasn't hearing things
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:15am
fred:

I wish I had met the composer before (I'll try to before he leaves), because he referred to Negativland and copyright (I was wearing a Techtonic T-shirt). I usually meet young composers, but COVID got in the way

Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:21am

Outrage sells, Ike, and journalists need the clicks for dough.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:24am
Brian D:

Hello Michael!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 4:25am
Brian D:

To be clear @Ike, I'm not defending the practice. But I know that media outlets and those who work for them have to scramble for the all the attention -- and money -- they can get. And, in today's environment, attention IS money. I hate that about the industry but that's where we are.

There's occasional talk of language talk on the radio, about what is obscene. Yet no objection to Musk or Bezos level of wealth

Odd how we define obscenity, eh Fred?

Hello Morphe. Yes, what people don't seem to see is that "government assistance with energy bills," at least as currently constituted, is subsidies for hugely profitable energy corporations.
