"I listened yesterday. It's no reflection on you but I could'nt see where you were going or what you were going for. This early seventies thing did'nt get noticed the first time and you talk about friends of like Dealney and Bonnie who had records out like we're supposed to remember who they are. Then you play this long winded free jazz stuff that really grates on my nerves. And that noise without a beat and sounds like someones being pinched. Then you play a reggae song, I think you called it Dub, to what, be cool? You seem to really fetishize the whole folk thing too which is obnoxious to us who don't even care. I liked it when you played that punk song though. I like Joe Belock a lot." (Visit homepage.)

@yeti - I’ve been writing and that’s been nice when I can get it! Will def post my short stories sometime on here when I’ve got them somewhere visible lol.
Sadly this job is the perfect combo of tedious but having to pay attention kinda so hard to concentrate much. Been getting really into watching the leaves blow in the wind. It’s beautiful!

Have just sat down with a tall glass of dark, black coffee with chicory and a smoothie. Haven’t made falafel in a while so prepared for that intensive production to take a while. So many ingredients into the food processor.
Am at the essay part of the Malcolm X Reader, the first of which is the great James Baldwin’s. Though I’ve read it in the past I still relish going over his words once again. One of this country’s best ever.
The meditative tunes provide a delightful cushion on which to read.

Reminded me of how Bernard Purdie at drum clinics similarly will share his thoughts process for the grooves and feels he’s thinking of playing, their derivations and context, all the while singing, shouting and groaning in ecstasy. Incredible stuff.

Contemplating world class drummers can lead to some really mind-blowing awe. It’s hard to wrap one’s head around the enormous brainpower required (to say nothing of the physical aspect) to get to that level of independence with the limbs that they do.
Saw Bozzio at a clinic too, in the mid/late 80’s, and also Simon Phillips around the same time. And it literally defies what we think of as possible to see them do what you described.
It’s both a sobering and wondrous thing to behold, being a rock drummer myself since about 14yrs old. You know you’ll never get anywhere near that, approaching any remote universe they’re in. The time and commitment are one thing, and the other is genuine genius and proclivity. You behold these masters in awe, laugh with giddy wonder at the things they’re pulling off, and hopefully, just resolve to being as content as you can allow yourself to be in your own very limited ability to go on.
Do you play?

Incredible power and dexterity, flourishes of syncopated interplay between hands and feet. Beautifully setting up the band’s entrance with a funky as hell welcome.
Which is why I always qualify “rock” drummer when meeting people, which implicitly admits a limited ability and that stuff like this is waaaaay over my head. Can only pick tiny crumbs out of it, and then maybe go over and over and over one tiny cool thing and if I’m lucky store it in my limited toolbox.
Great stuff!

Probably the most mind-blowing drummer I ever saw live was Roy Haynes doing a show with Pat Metheny. The dude did a solo on nothing more than the hi-hat. It was insanely musical.

What's your ETA? The only tricky thing is that K8's parents are in town and are due over here at 12. So probably not the best day for it unless you're passing through in the next half hour or so.
