Musical theater from off the beaten path. Obscure and unusual show tunes from within the canon and without, flops, failures, and the newest works from up-and-coming artists—plus tried-and-true hits. Also, occasional appearances from songs that are not show tunes (but only if they go really well with show tunes).

Good evening, Bronwyn.
I’m thinking to select “One Night Only: Broadway Musicals That Closed on Opening Night” as a DJ premium when I make my Hellraiser pledge.
What flop shows does it spotlight?

Michael 98145:

We get our rules from the book of FMU

@David: some included shows are Glory Days, Dance a Little Closer and Kelly!

Speaking of Michael Crawford, Phantom is Closing in Feb '23.

I didn't know the movie "Billy Liar" was adapted from a novel. I do remember the 1979 American sitcom starring Steve Guttenberg that was canceled after 7 episodes.

Gone with the Wind had huge impact on many post war Japanese. Frankly madam, I don't give a damn.

Georg Kreisler was an Austrian Satirist - he actually had a German song that was suspiciously close to Tom Lehrer's Poisoning Pigeons in the Park . Robyn Archer is also a really good interpreter of Brecht/Eisler songs.

Bronwyn Bishop:

I tried to convince the Hoof & Mouth to let me do Poisoning Pigeons in the Park one year and was met with a resounding NO

The 70s was a time of creative casting choices.

The one time i went to see One Mo Time, Eubie Blake was in attendance. We were in line to pick up our will call tickets and a lady walked to the front of the line. After a couple minutes she turned around and said, "come on, Eubie, we can go in". My brother, unsuspecting said "Eubie? The only Eubie I know of is Eubie Blake." Just then a soft raspy voice said "pardon me" and slipped past us. Yep. the one and only. They knew he was going to be attending, and from the stage Vernel B. asked him to stand up in the audience to be recognized.

I sing songs from Lemmings - very silly!

I demand a Lemmings revival. Let's see if the current SNL cast can hack it

Who will replace Alice Playten?

I have the National Lampoon songbook and have dared to sing Well-Intentioned Blues. Lemmings is always good fun. Thx for playing it!

You can imagine how offended the collegetown liberals got

Belushi's takedown bio Wired by Bob Woodward says John had to play bass but he couldn't play, so they just turned his amp all the way down on stage.

... and what's wrong with Poisoning Pigeons in the Park? ... what about, say, The Elements? given your predilections.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 8:56pm
Dano59:

Go to a record store or flea market and find something amazing, Bronwyn. Do not sit at home and scowl.

I haven't gone to a record store in forever, great idea Dano!!! I used to go to Angry Mom in Ithaca all the time

well there are few like that one up here still, but Academy Records on 18th came to mind when I thought of NYC goldmines. (still open? I can't remember)
