Favoriting Acid Jazz Hands with Bronwyn Bishop: Playlist from October 28, 2022 Favoriting

Bronwyn Bishop's avatar View Bronwyn Bishop's profile Favoriting

Musical theater from off the beaten path. Obscure and unusual show tunes from within the canon and without, flops, failures, and the newest works from up-and-coming artists—plus tried-and-true hits. Also, occasional appearances from songs that are not show tunes (but only if they go really well with show tunes).

I had a WiFi outage for no reason at all until now. But I *think* I'm here now.
Love this Rickie Lee album.

Important to realize that Mezz Mezzrow is NOT Merzbow!

Hi WR, diciassette and Gregory!!! :D

@Gregory: mixing them up could get you into trouble at parties!

Oh, dear, I've been trying to cope with the fact that I've just realized that I've had Dinah Shore and Doris Day confused blended mixed together in my mind for decades.
Avatar 🎭 7:32pm
Listener Gregory:

@WR, you are not alone.
That was a beautiful rendition of "What's New," one of my favorite songs.
Avatar 7:33pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

@WR: Don't feel bad, I somehow mixed up Todd Rundgren and Ted Nugent in my head for years

@Gregory: glad you liked it!! :)

Sarah Vaughan does a wonderful version of "Midnight Sun." You don't hear it very often in jazz circles.
Avatar 🎭 7:51pm
Listener Gregory:

Paul Gonsalves featured on that Ellington piece. But is the song from a musical?

I heard you, Bronwyn, but you did whisper, "Don't tell WR!," so I didn't say anything.

I'm so fogged up here. Somehow didn't realize/had overlooked that Raul Julia had done that 3 Penny Opera. Put it on my request list at the library and also see a musical called Nine with Julia that I don't know.
Avatar 🎭 8:33pm
Listener Gregory:

@WR, the experts will correct me, but I suspect Nine is a musical version of the film 8 1/2.
Avatar 🎭 8:34pm
Listener Gregory:

I also just have to comment that Aida is such a great story that it's about time someone wrote some music to it!
Avatar 8:46pm
Bronwyn Bishop:

I've played a few songs from Nine before

It's only a matter of time before the Star Wars Musical is made, I'm sure.
Excellent show, Bronwyn! I really enjoyed it.

WR:

Listener Gregory. Brace yourself, You are correct. Nine is a musical version of 8 1/2. Or maybe you already knew that and phrased your comment to send me to web search.

Bronwyn Bishop:

I think there's already a couple Star Wars musical parodies but I wait with bated breath for the official one

Ha, I also put a recent recording of Hair on my library request list.

Thank you!

@WR, I hope being right in this matter doesn’t raise a lot of false expectations.

WR:

No worries, LG, as the song goes, I've got no expectations.

And tagging this playlist with thanks for the streaming for putting that great Sun Ra tune after Acid Jazz Hands and before Billy Bang. I hope I can find the Sun Ra track or will it haunt me ever and ever.

Thanks you! Bronwyn!
