Favoriting Hinky Dinky Time with Uncle Michael: Playlist from November 18, 2022 Favoriting

Uncle Michael's avatar View Uncle Michael's profile Favoriting

Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

Never understood what the big deal with Taylor Swift was. She's mediocre, but she has many #1 hits and multiple Grammy wins. That's Whitney Houston territory and Taylor is nowhere near that good.

Taylor Swift is a complete package: writer, performer, personality. Her independent persona feeds the charisma. The records are over-produced, sure, but certainly the same goes for Whitney. That, in fact, is what I love about "Wanna Dance." But for the Dolly song, by my lights Dolly herself and Linda Ronstadt take the prize.

Pedro in Arlington:

@Dan Somebody has to be Taylor Swift and this one is very good at it. The songs are catchy, she's willing to use that huge popularity against the likes of a Marsha Blackburn, the business moves are prescient and she's brought a big chunk of her fan base from elementary school into post-grad life. Saw TayTay 10 years ago with my 10-year-old. Fun and memorable. My daughter saw the Donnas open for the Hives when she was 5. Good to let them know there's a big world of entertainment to explore.

I pretended to be drunk at a party with some friends who thought they were getting me drunk with mead, just to play along with the gag. That's if you don't count when I played The Drunk in the 2nd Form (8th grade) play "The Best Life", written by an upperclassman. He enlarged the part when he saw how good I was playing a drunk.

  2:11pm

For the play? Honestly, I hadn't touched a drop! But felicity followed upon inspiration in so many ways. My zipper broke accidentally that morning, and Mother and the playwright both thought a safety pin closing my pants was perfect. I put on a certain laugh that I'd previously done for real at lunch with the star of the show. Somebody got the idea in makeup to give me a red nose, though it was subtle.

That play anticipated the great surprise in "Saw". I won't spoil.
