Turning over the toy box and jamming together the gloriously mismatched musical Lincoln Logs, Legos and Tinker Toys from Tin Pan Alley pluggers, pickled egg tavern weepers, lockstep soul ensembles, skinny-tie power poppers, Eurotrash ravers, moontanned art school rockers, drunken soccer anthems and anything else that seems like a good idea at the time. There are no guilty pleasures.

I have MacDonald's book "The New Shostakovich" and its a well detailed look at the composer's works, through a musical and historical lens. It was meant as a correction of an earlier biography of Shostakovich's with a lot of discrepancies called "Testimony".

i personally don't like the fact that many younger people who don't know better (& older ones that don't know better) finish that book thinking the beatles generally borrowed all of their ideas from other popular songs.
...although he's in constant contradiction, in that he makes all those assertions, then exclaims how they changed everything!
he also references another book by one steve turner, which i'd read prior and been pissed off about exactly the same thing. assumptions and hypothesis stated as fact.

not me. i like change. when it's change for the better. there are shitty website in this world that i was quite used to, could navigate with relative ease. when they were improved upon, it wasn't immediately evident because suddenly i had to do things differently; but in time i was Thankful.
in this case, these changes are fundamentally dehumanizing. no more of that pesky vagueness that causes people to have to communicate with each-other.
...people need work so they fuck with things that are perfectly fine.

I reckon Brian was both spiritual inspiration & a practical stone (in fact ...Stone) around their necks. So cut loose from him - they ran far & fast indeed ...but to increasingly less interesting places. Manner of speaking.
Also think Exile On Main Street is the best Rolling Stones *Album* - if not their best *Songs*.
