Trio was formed in 1980 by Stephan Remmler, Gert "Kralle" Krawinkel and Peter Behrens. Released as a single in 1982 and featured on their 1981 self-titled debut album, "Da Da Da" became a hit in Germany and about 30 other countries, selling 13 million copies worldwide. The lyrics were written by Remmler, the music by Krawinkel. "Da Da Da" remains the band's biggest German hit and their only hit outside Germany." |

Before the Liaisons Dangereuses trio, Chrislo Haas and Beate Bartel were in duo named CHBB. After recording four ten-minute cassettes, they released their sole album in 1981. The self-titled album was mixed at Conny Plank's studio in Cologne. The group made several live appearances throughout 1981 and 1982 and were occasionally joined by Anita Lane and Hideto Sasaki. The album carried the single "Los Niños del Parque" that displayed a "step-sequenced" style that became an underground hit and has been cited by many prominent Chicago house and Detroit techno DJs as a crucial influence. Red Mecca | Rough Trade | 1981 | While touring the USA in November 1979, Cabaret Voltaire became strongly interested in the rise of the Christian right and its use of television, especially the fund-raising broadcasts of TV evangelist Eugene Scott. They compared this to the rise of Islamism, devoting a side to each strand of religious politics on their 1980 mini-album Three Mantras. Red Mecca was a culmination of this interest. According to Richard H. Kirk: "The whole Afghanistan situation was kicking off, Iran had the American hostages [...] we were taking notice [...] it's not called [Red Mecca] by coincidence. We weren't referencing the fucking Mecca Ballroom in Nottingham!" Red Mecca was recorded at Western Works, Sheffield in May 1981, reached the UK top independent music charts. It is hailed by many as their best album. The Cabaret Voltaire. Under this name a group of young artists and writers has formed with the object of becoming a center for artistic entertainment. In principle, the Cabaret will be run by artists, permanent guests, who, following their daily reunions, will give musical or literary performances. Young Zürich artists, of all tendencies, are invited to join us with suggestions and proposals. The cabaret featured spoken word, dance and music. The soirees were often raucous events with artists experimenting with new forms of performance, such as sound poetry and simultaneous poetry. Mirroring the maelstrom of World War I raging around it, the art it exhibited was often chaotic and brutal. On at least one occasion, the audience attacked the cabaret's stage. Though the cabaret was to be the birthplace of the Dadaist movement, it featured artists from every sector of the avant-garde, including Futurism's Marinetti. However in 2016 Drew sent me what became the "18 & Free" single and had me eating my words, eagerly releasing a single for the kid I kept telling never. Now its 2022 and SICK THOUGHTS are back on TOTAL PUNK with a brand new LP. Drew has proven himself far more than a novelty and here I am eagerly footing the bill again. "Zacht Automaat, which in Dutch loosely translates to Soft Machine, are the duo of Carl Didur and Mike McLean. They first met when Mike accepted an invitation to join Didur’s earliest band Cedrumatic and McLean made an immediate impression. Recalling his first encounter with Mike and his companion Arp Odyssey, Carl states “He had more knobs and could lean at the coolest angle, like he was flying a spaceship into the sun, while playing one single note, forever. This wild character was Michael John McLean and we have now been making music together for 23 years.” Soon afterward Cedrumatic morphed into a new band, The Battleship, Ethel, which was originally formed to open for Damo Suzuki of CAN in Hamilton in 2001. The band toured around Ontario and into Quebec until 2009, morphing from Cluster-drone to Hawkwind space-metal and finally to a Canterbury-influenced power trio with McLean moving to bass. During their lifespan The Battleship, Ethel toured as Suzuki’s backing band and welcomed a number of psych legends on stage including Dave Byers (Simply Saucer) and Bob Bryden (Spirit Of Christmas). As the band unceremoniously fell apart after years of evading official documentation, Carl and Mike would enter the next decade as Zacht Automaat and in a burst of unbridled creativity would record eight records in 2010 alone." So I spontaneously moved to Chicago, which was much more inclusive and everyone wasn’t standing around peering at each other from behind their shades.
