doc, the guy's paper was about Taylor's "free" style as encryption of more traditional material, and how this was of a piece with Taylor's defensive self-encryption as a gay black man in the 50s. Taylor, alive at the time, actively undermined the guy's research, maybe in defense of his cipher.

Speaking of Bandcamp Friday (2 hours ago), I was on a certain Jeff G's Bandcamp page looking for ideas, when I found a link to the newest Bad Plus album (sold out), which led me to discover that the band was playing in nearby Keene, NH of all places (not a hotbed for new jazz or creative music) the next night. So I heard the Bad Plus very unexpectedly last night. Very good concert. Their new sound reminds me of Jim Black's Alasnoaxis in many respects: aggressive drumming, guitar washes, and Chris Speed playing the main melodic parts. That is my review.
And thanks to Jeff for linking me up to it.

@doctorj, yes, I kind of skipped the Orrin Evans version, but this one sounds so different, even when they play the old compositions, that you're not distracted by what was. However, one major disappointment was that one member of the band (Reid Anderson) did NOT wear a wool cap, which was really inexplicable. This WAS New Hampshire, after all.

@Adamdoesit: Totally! They could even serve appropriate treats in the lobby. I mean, drugs are more or less legal now.

Where is Jessica Lurie now? And please don't tell me anything horrible.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am
Jeff Golick:

Lurie appears to be still doing her thing, e.g., jessicalurie.bandcamp.com
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:29am
Jeff Golick:

This is close to a Coltrane theme?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:30am
Uncle Michael:

hey, you're still here!

Good to hear about Lurie. I have the Billy Tipton records and then simply didn't hear about her for a long time.

Jeff Golick:

Where would I go, @UM?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:34am
adamdoesit:

I gotta go get a little exercise and a lot of dog food. Thanks for the tunes, Jeff G! See you all later the Stork.

Take care, @adamdoesit! Hope you don't get those quantities mixed up.

Looking over Drury's recorded output now... I had forgotten about the Jason Kao Hwang group with Taylor Ho Bynum and Ken Filiano, will pull that for listening later.
Avatar 🥁 11:38am
Listener Gregory:

Very confused about this set... you're featuring someone I haven't heard of, and he's NOT dead? Do I have that right?
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:38am
Jeff Golick:

Hi, @Brian in UK! Thanks, and yes, she's up and much more about now. The healing has begun!
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:39am
Jeff Golick:

Yeah, @DJpeter, that's good stuff but I'm going to run out of time before getting to it here.

@LG, that is correct!

@Jeff no problem, I do actually own some records of my own.

The other members of Content Provider are very familiar names.
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:41am
DJpeterDE:

Ah, Drury also has a duet record with Stephanie Richards that I haven't heard. I like Richards best when she isn't the bandleader. A duet record will test that proposition.
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:42am
Jeff Golick:

Pulled that one to listen, too, @DJpeter. It's pretty abstract.

Streaming you in Paris, Jeff!
Avatar 🥁 Swag For Life Member 11:53am
DJpeterDE:

This album cover reminds me, early in the pandemic when I was only doing curbside, and my wife sent me to the hardware store to buy a saw. I phoned in from the curb and a big man walked out, wearing a face mask, and holding two saws (I pointed at one and he went inside to ring me up). It was a horror movie image, but in bright daylight in a strip mall.
