Favoriting February 18, 2023: 276 Checkerboard Radio (2)

I first learned about The Checkerboard Time Radio Show and especially The Cackle Sisters through the 365 days project assuming these were all the recordings we have of the Dezurik Sisters. Recently I found a bunch of complete episodes of Checkerboard Time not only co-featuring other artists, but also some Cackle Sister songs that aren't in the list on WFMU's beware of the Blog linked above.
Being completely in the dark when (late 30s/mid 40s?) or what order they aired, I numbered them at my discretion.

Cielito Lindo was popular and covered by all sorts of bands since it was written in the late 1880s. It's also known as Vaya Con Dios.

Jan Turkenburg:

Yes, I heard it first as a child as Vaya Con Dios. My farther (who turned 89 yesterday) used to play it on the electronic organ.

@Krys: If you ever come to Paris, one of the prime movers of the experimental scene there is a Polish guy. You could even say his name right, which I fail at doing

Hi, fred! My mom had a cousin who lived in Paris. I met her son when I was there in 1981. I heard lots of Polish when I walked the streets because of expats who escaped Soviet oppression. My French is thoroughly rusted like an abandoned car. Needs some maintenance.

Jan, not sure if you ever heard of Bart Plantenga. He is a former WFMU dj and is an expert on yodeling. He lives in Amsterdam.

Eddie Peabody was top line banjoist and entertainer in late 30s, probably when these recordings were made.
