When I was a really little kid, my dad was a US Marine, so he'd get a boat and one of his buddies and take us kids camping & fishing. One day (and this is a true story!) We were going through the Lake of the Woods and were heard a drumming (like indians) we went for a while and going to other way was this indian canoe full of animal skins and they were staring at us and we were staring at them.... They and we were thinking, "What the F*ck are these people doing here?"

Nah. I meet these "young punks" all the time here in Japan. They ask me, "Why don't you dress like a punk?" (Jesus, I'm 66 years old) But I tell them, "I am dressed like a punk. Just whatever is in the drawer is fine for me. I cut my own hair and there is no way I'm gonna spend $1000 on a leather jacket.

I watched those and thought, "Ah? So this is where the idea for Sheena's jungle room came from." It's a time warp. Japan was like that until about 1989 (when the Sex Pistols was finally released here!)

cracks me up when I see a movie or TV show that's set in the real punk era and they make the punks out to have lots of tattoos, etc.
Back in the day, most real punks I knew didn't have money for extensive tattoo work. They were spending what money they had on instruments or drugs or both.
Plus back then, heavy tattoos was a biker/metal/prison lifer thing. It wasn't considered very punk until much later.

One day I was walking through Shibuya and this kid walked up to me and said, "Wow! Where d you get these clothes? They are so cool!"
(I thought he was nuts!")
I said, "I don't know, my mom bought them for me like 10 years ago, maybe Kmart..." They were just crappy clothes!

or how they all have leather jackets and big ol mohawks. Few kids could afford those jackets, and fewer parents/schools allowed giant spiky multi-colored hair. I seem to recall lots of t shirts and jeans, sometimes festooned with black marker anarchy As, band logos, etc. Y'know, DIY fashion.
