I used one name when announcing this episode, but it is also known as, "The High Price of Treason," among other names. Bold Venture, as mentioned previously, would often retitle the same episode, seemingly "inflating" the number of episodes available. It's not clear if Santana Productions did this, as a way to offer more episodes than were recorded, or if stations did this, to make it seem like there was a new episode coming, when it was actually a repeat. Again, hard to know which was actually happening, but: multiple names have led to a lot of confusion with Bld Venture.

Austin Rich:

↳ Webhamster Henry @9:34
Unfortunately, by comparison, Box 13 is such a high quality show, and Bold Venture is... just fine. Mayfair Productions clearly took a lot of care with their shows... and Santana was making shows, too.

Oh, yes. This documentary is from the 90's, and is very north American, in terms of it's narrative. I like the doc, because it's totally about how American's just steal stuff from each other. A more comprehensive story would only mention these folks, sort of in passing.

For the entire run of Chandu (that we have heard so far), the episodes have aired daily, beginning in the summer. We have now reached the period where the kids are no longer on Summer Break, and listening to Chandu will become harder and harder. (Chandu was on in the evenings as a family show, but because it was on in the evenings, often limited who could tune in.) Certainly this didn't stop most dedicated fans from still listening, but moving into the fall, they were starting to drop off.

As I understand it, this recording is actually an "audition" show, sort of like a pilot. It has a date of April, 22nd, and it's possible that it might have been broadcast on that date. But, more likely, this was just made as a proof of concept, to make sure that their debut episode - two days later - could be pulled off without a hitch. As I understand it, "No Contact" was the first new episode that listeners actually heard in 1955.

According to other records I've found, this particular audition recording was finally broadcast, for listeners to hear, later that year, in September. (As I understand it: they actually aired the audition recording.) That I know of, those are the only two instances of this exact story being duplicated anywhere in the X-Minus One line-up, but I do know that occasionally, local stations would re-air their fave episodes during any off-weeks. For our purposes, I will play it twice: now, and in the September slot, later in the running order.

Norman Rose was the Dimension X announcer, and had the nickname, "The Voice of God," as he announced many other shows, too. While they got him for this audition recording, it was known that he couldn't do it in an on-going basis, and Fred Collins would take over the job moving forward.

The "Minus One" referenced in the name of the show is Norman Rose, and the "X" referenced in the name is the proceeding show we already heard: Dimension X.
