Good morning Joe, thank you for the gentle start you always cradle us with sonically. And a good morning to the fellow yipsters who are feeling the surface noise. Taxes, I can't even, it's going to be a cluster f on that front for me. Fully anticipated and planned for, so good on that front.
Good morning. We had 26" of rain in six hours. A state record. I'm fine but many lost their automobiles and many more homes are water damaged. The intersection of a past apt was on the front page of the Sun Sentinel. We have a port and fuel farms here yet trucks could not deliver to stations. I'm grateful i don't have to start over again. And grateful for electricity, music sound & djs.
the other unreal thing is that the seawalls along the marinas/port, etc, that usually keep water out were keeping water in (not allowing rainwater to drain to the sea)
It was literally just Ft Lauderdale. Not Miami, not Boca Raton, which makes the whole phenomenon unprecedented and unreal....(no tropical system either)
Hey Joe and everyone! Joe - I loved the first set! Especially the Shirley Collins. If UNESCO identified people as world heritage sites, Shirley should be one.
Always think of the story Macca gave Badfinger 'Come & Get It' - & said play it exactly this way... They said what about ...& he says - no : Do exactly this & reach exactly here in the Charts ! & McCartney was - exactly correct.
...but one of Rawk's saddest tales. How Badfinger even had TheBeatles' help & Hits ...& their thieving Management drove members to end their own lives. Alas !
We were in Atlanta this weekend. Sitting in the ATL airport yesterday, we were so exhausted and missed the kittens so much that forwent $2000 in Delta dollars to put off the return flight to this morning. Totally worth it when Goblin and Bugbear met us at the door.
Less so when I opened up work e-mail this morning ...
Was thinking about that too ... "Without You" is a beautiful song (all the versions, really) but there's also a haunting association with it too, given how the band members' lives went
Paul was surprisingly blithe in his book of a few years ago in his accounting for "Come and Get It." Such a tragic tale and he just kind of skipped over everything but his role in it.
Real, real good. Met up with listeners Happymaan, graphic_taco, and Vivian on Friday and did some crate digging at the store where I spent most of the money that I earned in high school, so that was a nice closing of the (vinyl) circle. Some good Atlanta-specific finds: Guadalcanal Diary, Method Actors, Kevn Kinney, live Pylon. And Kenny Roberts for the Vocal Fry set!
Glad your trip was a great success, and that you were greeted at the door with joyous pets. Work emails will always suck, but the pet love can cure that.

Joe… This is my favorite Romeo Void song. How didjaknow?
My brain, in order: 1. "Wow, this sounds so much like Romeo Void." 2. "Was today the day she's supposed to be on 3CM?" 3. "I bet Joe knows. I'll check the playlist." 4. "Oh."
Yeah. A parallel to BigStar one thinks.
...Also - there's a note or two Nilsson hits in his version that puts Badfinger's in its shadow, it happens...
Apparently the situation with TheBeatles' Apple label came down to - they did give a handful of people a hassle-free break ...but they weren't up to being Promotors of other Acts to speak of...
Hell, still cry over the one shown here. Binky was a very special cat. Erin is wonderful, and her own cat. She's incredibly attuned to music, which is a ton of fun.
Yeah... it's sort of unfortunate, tragic even, but I don't know if I put a lot of blame on the Beatles -- they were having their own issues obviously
Just sad it got to the point it did with Badfinger, but they weren't the first nor last band swindled by shady folks
This is how I felt in Atlanta without a car all weekend. They let tree branches grow right at Handy-head height far too frequently, and one expects a clear field of view when on a sidewalk and so sometimes is not looking for massive wooden blackjacks, especially if one likes to gesticulate to accompany one's witticisms.
Nice! From a similar time but different coast, I borrowed the recent Mumps disc from the library. It's killer!

Missing Persons Walking in L.A. ..
went to LA 2 Xs [90s]and never rented a car ..
Walked used to walk from No Hollywood down the town and out to Watts and ... most common questions to me were:
are you lost
are you a hari kristina{had
a multicolored bag]
buses did work in the day..
did get out as my friend's sister had a car and we did get far flung trips = Joshua Tree and NW ocean ...
Funny you mention that, I just finished reading John Doe's collection of essays about the early Los Angeles punk scene called Under The Big Black Sun. It was really good.
"... The Quick!" -- feat. in that teenage 'Mix Tape' series. Why a modern teen would be wearing a Quick tee shirt and another teen would know them from her parents' pivotal mixtape is a fantasy of course. But Danny Benair was in his glory.
boy this sounds different, fuller than my 45. must be the FMU effect.
JCM pur out some real fine covers as B-sides in '87.
(and screw John Cafferty! he's pre-approved for Joe's premium, that's enuff!)
...yerknow - I've no desire to encounter folks irl & stink up their personal space (as if taking up too much oxygen in Chats weren't more than enuff)
...but I would dearly love to jam with the Hoof & Mouth Sinfonia were they to magically condescend to it.
That's good to hear. It's hard to get the vibe from the street so far away. Same with Seattle. There's still cool, affordable stuff happening. You just need to look a little harder.
The two critters in the back of my car probably have no idea how choked up I got hearing that. Just once I'd like to die before my dogs do. well we're off to the woods for a walk. Thanks, Joe.
