Eighty minutes of never-before-heard music from this group were recently discovered at the New York Public Library. In addition to some well-known Coltrane material (“Impressions”), there is a breathtaking feature for Dolphy’s bass clarinet on “When Lights Are Low” and the only known non-studio recording of Coltrane’s composition “Africa”, from the Africa/Brass album."

Host David Mittleman presents an exclusive interview with legendary Jazz trumpeter and author Ahmed Abdullah. Best known for his membership in Sun Ra’s Arkestra, Abdullah played a vital part in the 1970s New York Loft Jazz scene. Abdullah discusses his time with Sun Ra, playing with Jazz legends like Sam Rivers and authoring his memoir, A Strange Celestial Road.
