I really want these last two songs. I held out with Barry Blood because it cost so much, then saw the exact same copy posted on instagram. Should of bit the bullet and bought it. Then the Damned I see sometimes but I keep passing on it because there is no picture sleeve. I love the picture sleeves. Maybe I should get a copy anyway though.

↳ Song: "That’s the Way a Woman Is" by "Messengers"
This is a good one. I actually discovered this song through a recent cover by a Japanese band. That cover was played on Mike Rogers' Show on WFMU. Such a catchy song.
Avatar 3:26pm
Debbie Davenport:

They got popular in Japan. Even used that song on a commercial.

Interesting! Thanks, Debbie.

I did not know the song was big in Japan. The version Mike Rogers played on his show was by a female duo band called Lighters from 2021. I was looking for that version on YouTube and actually found a Japanese language version done by a band called the Chirps from the 60s or 70s: www.youtube.com...

Mr. Oxford:

↳ Song: "Sugar Sugar" by "Archies"
There is a raw and rough cover "Sugar, Sugar" done by Alex Chilton. It's no longer a bubblegum pop song in that recording.
Avatar 3:58pm
Debbie Davenport:

Gordon and I have been watching Riverdale lately. The way they redid this song for the show was almost unrecognizable. It was Josie and The Pussycats who did it, but still. Wow!
Avatar 3:59pm
Debbie Davenport:

I haven't heard the Alex Chilton version.
  3:59pm
Cheree July:

What?! They redid the Archies Sugar, Sugar?!
  3:59pm
Kittimu:

You've been watching riverdale? I hear that show is.... insane to say the least
  4:01pm
Cheree July:

Yeah, I heard there's nothing good on the CW anymore.
Avatar 4:02pm
Mr. Oxford:

Here's the link to the Alex Chilton version: www.youtube.com...
Avatar 4:02pm
Debbie Davenport:

↳ Kittimu @3:59
I watched some of season one when it was fresh but then dropped off. It's more fun to watch with Gordon. He has a giant comic collection and used to work in a comic store so even though Archies aren't his favorite or anything, he's super familiar. we're streaming it and can go to the next one right away. Such a soap opera! Gay stuff, occult stuff. I don't want to give spoilers, but Miss Grundy is very different than she was in the comics!
Avatar 4:03pm
Debbie Davenport:

"Jingle Jagle is a hard drug on the show. Similar to speed but kind of sex centric too. The Groovy Ghoulies are a biker gang.
  4:03pm
Cheree July:

I haven't heard the Alex Chilton version of Sugar, Sugar in years.
Avatar 4:05pm
Debbie Davenport:

↳ Cheree July @4:01
It is kind of a dumb bad show, but most mainstream tv is.
  4:05pm
Cheree July:

So they wrote the Archies TV show Riverdale to be like Skins or Degrassi High?!😕😵‍💫
Avatar 4:05pm
Debbie Davenport:

↳ Mr. Oxford @4:02
Thanks Mr Oxford.
  4:06pm
Kittimu:

I once saw a post that was like "all these things happened on riverdale" and it was a list of the most deranged stuff. I don't think I could bring myself to watch it
Avatar 4:06pm
Debbie Davenport:

↳ Cheree July @4:05
I don't know what Skins or Degrassi High is. TV shows?
Avatar 4:07pm
Mr. Oxford:

↳ Cheree July @4:05
Hahaha Skins and Degrassi High. I'm not familiar with Riverdale at all but those two I am familiar with and my oh my even in high school my friends and I thought those were terrible shows.
Avatar 4:08pm
Mr. Oxford:

↳ Debbie Davenport @4:06
Yes they were TV Shows about high school students and drama amongst them I think.
  4:09pm
Cheree July:

Skins was a really edgy 2000s UK TV teen show & Degrassi was a kinda edgy Canadian teen show from the 80s, then rebooted in the 2000s.
Avatar 4:13pm
Mr. Oxford:

Skins had the actor Dev Patel who went on to play the lead role in 2009 Oscar winning movie Slumdog Millionaire.

Degrassi High had an actor who went on to become the rapper Drake.
Avatar 4:14pm
Debbie Davenport:

↳ Kittimu @4:06
Yeah it may not be worth your time. We watch it to laugh about how they redo things or listen for references to archie songs. I dropped off my solo watching. Like I mentioned, it's more fun to watch with someone. especially if they are familiar with the Archies.
Avatar 4:15pm
Debbie Davenport:

↳ Mr. Oxford @4:13
I've heard of that movie and Drake. Never checked it and him out though.
Avatar 4:15pm
Mr. Oxford:

I love how Cheree laughed when Don mentioned Slipknot haha.

There is a Slipknot interview with notable Canadian music interviewer Nardwuar. Nardwuar is being his illustrative self asking humorous questions and one of the Slipknot guys just walks off. No sense of humor whatsoever haha.
  4:16pm
Cheree July:

That's right, Mr. Oxford.
Avatar 4:19pm
Mr. Oxford:

↳ Mr. Oxford @4:15
And then there's a Nardwuar interview with Immortal, the legendary Norwegian Black Metal band whose music is wayyy more hardcore and edgy than Slipknot's. And those guys are being humorous, having fun and being easy going in the interview. It is such a contrast.
  4:20pm
Cheree July:

Weird.😵‍💫
Avatar 4:20pm
Debbie Davenport:

↳ Cheree July @4:09
We chose not to have a tv in late 90s early 2000s. Helped me start doing art again. I knew it would. It drove some people we knew crazy!!! My sister kept visiting me and wouldn't even look at our records which is what we did instead of watching tv. Some friends gave us a tv and insisted we become watchers again. Such a weird control freak thing to do to someone. Anyway, I have gaps with my exposure some things.

Kittimu:

this song is embarrassingly catchy. I'm mad it got taken off spotify
  4:24pm
Kittimu:

I really need to stop using spotify. They keep taking off the junkshop glam compilations and I keep getting mad
Avatar 4:24pm
Debbie Davenport:

↳ Kittimu @4:23
You can hear it on youtube. My youtube mixes are almost all things I've heard on this show.
Avatar 4:25pm
Mr. Oxford:

↳ Debbie Davenport @4:20
Yeah it is strange that your friends tried to give you TV to convert you to become TV watchers again. Like...why do people care so much how one chooses to live his/her/their life?
Avatar 4:26pm
Debbie Davenport:

↳ Mr. Oxford @4:25
Yeah you get it. I'm surprised how many people don't.
Avatar 4:26pm
Mr. Oxford:

I also don't watch TV to be honest. I do not use any streaming services except WFMU, Bandcamp and YouTube. I am also out of touch with recent TV shows. I watch movies in the theatres or watch from my DVD collection. It definitely helps me do other things and not get sucked into endless Netflix binge watching.
  4:28pm
Cheree July:

Yeah, Mr. Oxford, I have Amazon Prime Video, but I don't watch much TV.
  4:28pm
Kittimu:

I'm not up on "trendy" tv these past few years either. Like, it's on sometimes, but I only pay attention occasionally. The only sort of content I've been regularly consuming is like, old spaghetti westerns on YouTube and archive.org, but I'm probably a statistical outlier there
Avatar 4:29pm
Debbie Davenport:

↳ Mr. Oxford @4:26
Yes! Good for you. I do not like I'm caught up in this bingewatching format at all. My husband does work hard though and it's a convenient thing for him to do with me on worknights. But then the residue remains. I feel like the creativity is still sucked out of me when I have the space to do my own stuff.
  4:30pm
Cheree July:

Kittimu, me & Don were venting our frustrations about the lack of Glam on Spotify when we need it to promote the Wired Up flyers😤
Avatar 4:31pm
Debbie Davenport:

I'm confused about spotify. Is it like a social media account such as instagram? I thought it was just a non youtube way for people to upload and store music.
  4:32pm
Kittimu:

Yeah. I'm still big mad that Aggravation Place by the Jook used to be on spotify (in a compilation) and it got taken down. Sometimes I'll go on YouTube just to listen to songs I wouldn't be able to elsewhere
Avatar 4:33pm
Debbie Davenport:

Seems like people use sound cloud like it's a social place too. I was thinking the same thing about it.
  4:34pm
Cheree July:

Kittimu, I was telling Don before the show how much better YouTube is for music.
Avatar 4:34pm
Mr. Oxford:

↳ Debbie Davenport @4:31
Spotify is like Netflix for music and audio things. You can stream songs/albums and podcasts.

Cheree and Kittimu bring up good points about streaming in general. Spotify does not have all music. Netflix does not have all movies/TV shows one would want to watch. That is my problem with Streaming platforms.
  4:34pm
Kittimu:

I don't know about using it as social media but one of my friends sent me a SoundCloud link for a pretty obscure artist a while back so I'd assume there's some decent stuff on there.
Avatar 4:35pm
Mr. Oxford:

↳ Cheree July @4:34
I agree. YouTube is soo much better for music. I think BandCamp is too for atleast discovering world/experimental/niche small label stuff - most of which may not be on Spotify.
  4:36pm
Kittimu:

Yeah, even Hammered Satin's first album isn't on spotify anymore, idk why it got taken down
  4:36pm

Kittimu, I haven't listed to SoundCloud in awhile.
Avatar 4:36pm

I don't use bandcamp to listen to music. Well, only for one song which isn't on spotify or YouTube. But that's it
  4:37pm
Cheree July:

Oh I'll have to check that out
Avatar 4:40pm
Mr. Oxford:

I can relate to your sentence "the creativity is still sucked out of me". I feel like consuming media used to be experiences (looking at album cover, reading liner notes, putting the record on, listening to it etc.; same for movies/TV shows). Now I'm not so sure if those are rich experiences. Plus looking at a computer/phone screen a lot can be exhausting.

At our home that we can't stay in right now, we had a room just for records with a small wood table and 4 chairs in the center. People would come over and we'd do just that. check out details, talk about things. no phones or computers near us.
Avatar 4:43pm

And booze or coffee at the table.
  4:44pm

The picture sleeve on that John Black song is probably the coolest everyone's ever looked holding an accordion

Truth Kittimu. A Glam song about an accordion that isn't Polish but by French guys.
Avatar 4:47pm
Mr. Oxford:

↳ Kittimu @4:44
True!! I also like looking at the lyrics. The Liner Notes too. Liner Notes would be used by many artists to get creative and make statements or share emotions/message for fans which would add to the listening experience.
  4:49pm
Kittimu:

I have a hard time enjoying music if there's a lyric that I can't understand. (like when Wreckless Crazy got played just a few moments ago.... that's a good song but I can't understand a thing he's saying and I can't find the lyrics anywhere. ugh)
