Oh, hi. I almost didn't see you sitting there and how could I have missed you? Before you take all my breath away, why don't you slip away with me? What are we going to do? Well... I don't wanna spoil it for you but I can see us singing some songs, maybe take in a film or a show? Let's see where the evening takes us. I see us slow dancing under the moonlight lost in each other's eyes. Do you like to laugh? Of course you do. Will you laugh for me? Maybe just a little lau-- Wait, is that your laugh? It is? No-- Please don't do that again. Just take my hand and remember this magic is only for tonight. Join me in our One Night Stand.

Not exactly, but it was subversive, in a way that was important for the time... And pushed boundaries (in a good way) that the networks would not want to touch in times that preceded it.

And yet I'd argue it plays even better today then when it first aired.

would not have occured to me to get Danny Elfman for a period piece. He's always the go-to guy for "wacky." But this works a treat.

btw, have you checked out our new-ish show here on Sheena's, "Vortex of Chaos"? It's ostensibly a metal show, but it gets pretty dungeon synth-y.

↳ Mr Fab @11:01
I have not, my schedule is about to shift a lot as I teach so I can certainly take a look... and dungeonsynth has so much metal in it's DNA....
Avatar Swag For Life Member 11:05pm
MHLee:

Though I must say I've never been a metal head... my forays into dungeonsynth began with me needing ambient enough to replace the background music in the game I was playing

Is it Rosalind James that has a touch of a Kate Bush quality ?

This is such a Fun way to learn more about our national ‘bigger’ regional theatre scene. Although I’m utterly theater oriented person - the big musical is not really in my wheelhouse … yet I really appreciate this ear opening opportunity !
- Your bringing us something unique and special.
I will keep listening & learning.

Shoulder rubbing hob-nob theatre geek alert 🚨 ahead:
Oh - speaking of Frazier … I met & shook John Mahoney’s hand & got to tell him how much i loved his stage vibe and gruff voice. Saw him at a NY theatre workshop / read-thru. Also featuring Tyne Daly & other goodies I don’t recall now.
The 2 very memorable Mahoney shows I saw were the stellar “House of Blue Leaves” & the stunning Steppenwolf production of “Orphans” (both so darn good) A young burgeoning Ben Stiller in small role in the John Guare play, as well as the unforgettable Swoosie Kurtz. And Orphans was powerfully directed by Gary Sinise and co-starred Kevin Anderson & Terry Kinney.

Wow! You saw theatre history.
  12:19am
Erik (VT):

One of my biggest theatrical regrets; is not getting off my butt quickly to get early tickets to that infamous Waiting for GODOT featuring Robin Williams, Steve Martin, Bill freakin’ Irwin (my hero!) & F.Murray Abraham(?)….If I recall correctly. For awhile, before all the reviews kicked-in, tickets were available. But not for long. Sigh. Oh well. Wasn’t that production recorded for TV - PBS’s American Playhouse or Something ?!
FYI: One can see “House of Blue Leaves” that way !
And Bill Irwin’s jaw-droppingly brilliant “The Regard of Flight” (1982)
  12:21am
Erik (VT):

PBS’s “American Playhouse”: wiki says it ran from 1982 to 1993 … so wish we still had something that great on PBS now !!!
Avatar 12:25am
Mr Fab:

↳ Erik (VT) @12:19
Damn, that cast is crazy!

Never saw that, but I did see a production of the play Steve Martin wrote, Picasso at the Lapin Agile." Which was brilliant of course.
  12:28am
Erik (VT):

Nothing like “bad theatre” salvaged cleverly …often more memorable than “good plain theatre”.

LA doesn't even have a PBS station anymore. KCET went independent years ago. They were like: we don't need money-making seminars and John Tesh concerts, we can do better ourselves.
  12:34am
Erik (VT):

@Mr Fab: I so wanted to see & attend the original
Steppenwolf production of Steve Martin’s “Picasso…”
Woulda Shoulda Coulda …. Sigh 😉
Avatar 12:38am

↳ Mr Fab @12:25
Yes! One of my favorites.
  12:56am
Erik (VT):

I highly recommend seeing the American Playhouse recording of Sam Shepherd’s “True West” 1984(?) derived from the powerful Gary Sinise & John Malkovich version. It was jaw-dropping theatre of its moment.
Of course, unfortunately diminished via a recording. Yet still so fascinating. I think it’s one of Shepherd’s greatest plays. Would love to have been paying attention to other following duos: Philip Seymour Hoffman & John C Riley; Ethan Hawk & Paul Dano.
  12:58am

Natasha L. Is so darn hilarious !!!
Love her. Reminds me to find more of her & other much needed laughs …
