Obscure musical gems, avant experimentation, and classics worth rehearing. A conurbation of Leslie speakers, timbales, plungers, arch-tops, tablas, and squeaky reeds. Black ties, pork pies, Cuban boots, Nudie suits, bobbysocks, turtlenecks, and high-heeled sneakers. Jazz is the north star but it’s a wide universe, so says The Laughing Clock.

I have heard that the original tempo of Li'l Darlin' was also faster than we would expect, and the Count suggested trying to do it slowly. Which stuck. I think that this version is better suited as bed music. I can't help mentally slowing it down the entire time.

Yeah, that's a famous story. I don't buy it though. Unless Neal Hefti took the chart back and reharmonized it. I just don't think those voicings make any sense for a uptempo bounce.

Think I have both Ibrahim albums (got home late yesterday, didn't get a chance to check for the Roach/Ibrahim, but it sounds very familiar; I do have the Dollar Brand/Buddy Tate) and lots of Kirby at home. Never heard of Certain Lions and Tigers, liked their track.
