Shikata-ga-nai
It Can't be Helped
Not everything is easy. Sometimes things are so difficult and unfortunately, nothing can be done about it.
In a situation like this, the Japanese would say Shikata-ga-nai or Shou-ga-nai (or "shya-nai") which means: well, nothing can be done OR it can't be helped.
This phrase is a cultural staple in Japan, considered a mindset the Japanese have pre-loaded when faced with adversity.
Accurate ?

To keep the post above relatively small, I only pasted part of it.
The rest is below & is in line with your reply:
This phrase is often respected and praised, but also criticized by Western civilizations, highlighting the Japanese ability to endure through hardships, but also criticizing the Japanese for succumbing to social pressures and not to "rock the boat" during adversity.
I take it somewhat as "choose your battles"
There's some things expending energy on won't yield the result you want no matter what so accept it and fight for what you can change. Just my interpretation

I never give up on something 100%..not my nature. I'm a do'er. I get things done, but sometimes at a great cost to me emotionally & even physically.
I found the above term to be potentially useful in perhaps not wasting time on certain things, thereby giving myself more time & energy for things I can influence.
We'll see how it goes.
Things in print don't always translate to things in practice

I rarely dispense advice as it's too easy to offend these days.
I'm old & more thick skinned than many of today's humans, so I don't often say anything unless asked directly & privately

How about this from T.S. Eliot (who I often forget is american and this often reminds me he is)
For when you're alone
When you're alone like he was alone
You're either or neither
I tell you again it dont apply
Death or life or life or death
Death is life and life is death
I gotta use words when I talk to you
But if you understand or if you dont
That's nothing to me and nothing to you
We all gotta do what we gotta do
