Howdy Gaylord! I have to go get milk at the 7-11, but I don't want to miss the miracle that I feel in the depths of my soul that is about to be revealed.
One often thinks one appreciates Musics in another language more for not actually understanding the lyrics, somehow. But hearing Françoise en Anglais ...is rather grand.
...well ...I think for some of us Style Council seemed an empty affectation of Classic Soul ...whereas the earlier affectation by TheJam of Mod Rawk was kewl ...of course...
Weller had a rough patch in the 90s. Record company refused to put out SC's last album, Modernism: A New Decade, which was a house record (specifically, Jersey Sound). Weller disbanded the band, disavowed Talbot, went in a new guitar-heavy direction. Style Council was the butt of a lot of jokes but in the last few years several DJs have been spinning "Long Hot Summer" and that seems to have led to a full-blown reassessment. That's my perception anyway
Also more recently (as decades go) got a different sense of Weller himself as a lot less sardonic a Modfather than I thot he'd be. Quite straightforward.

Carmichael:
Harpsichord was a big deal in the 60s. And no one could play it like Lurch.
👍 he seems to have gone through some changes. Had a falling out with Paolo Hewitt (aka the Cappuccino Kid) whose tell-all post-split is pretty revelatory

the LETTERMEN!
my parents had their records, I don't remember them being this groovy
A rec for fun: the new Klaus Johann Grobe record is quite unlike their earlier stuff, which is synth-heavy. Now they're into singing songs, which initially struck me as odd, but now I dig it. For instance, check out "You gave it all" off the new album, io tu il loro. My 13yo daughter was compelled to tell me how much she liked it. No better rec.
white plains reminds me of another "one hit wonder"...
... in the stupidmarket about a week ago the song "smile a little smile for me" came on. a woman near me in produce was quietly singing along, so i said "who did this song?" she exclaims "i don't know!" and pulls out her dumbphone, making a remark about what the kids do.
but before she found out i remembered and said "the flying machine?" -i actually was doubtful.
anyway, it was them - a one hit wonder here but i think did better in the uk.
she looked impressed!
CTI products are always so beautiful and ridiculously crisply engineered.

So great to get off work at 9pm and quickly learn I had three hours of Gaylord on the radio. I was right to be excited, this has been amazing. Not substitute Gaylord but the real thing!
