Man, an FMU shirt sure gets attention at concerts. I was at JazzFest here in New Orleans yesterday, and got a question/comment in the first two minutes I was seated before a trad jazz set in the first timeslot at 11am, and then again at an Amanda Shaw set in mid afternoon. A third time also, but I am not recalling when that one was.
Speaking of Swag, I got an LP in the mail the other day that I had absolutely no memory of winning. Fortunately I liked it! Elijah McLaughlin Ensemble II on the great Tompkins Square label. Thanks to whatever WFMU show I won that on!

G'morning Joe, great first set, hitting Monday morning in style! Hello fellow surface dwellers!
@Handy thank you for Swag packing, may I be so fortunate as to have mine packaged up by you and K8!

perfect tune to end the set.

Toothgrinder Tom:
I keep reading these articles on npr’s website and elsewhere saying that the secret to happiness is having close and loving ties to your family - yet I can barely stand to be around mine.
I have found recently that it's surprisingly common for siblings and other family members to become estranged. I used to think it was more of a rarity.

Love the Del Rubio Triplets. Especially on the Pee Wee Herman Christmas special. Great Christmas album too.
Already got my swag-less this year than I usually get (I pledged $20 out of my SFL for prizes, but then credited it to 2 shows, which took me out of the running for the prize, which I didn't realize. Glad I could spread out the credit to more shows anyway (and who needs more STUFF!).
Morning Joe and fellow listeners. I received my WFMU marathon premiums on Saturday, and I wanted to say "Thank You" to all the FMU staff and volunteers who made it happen!
The situation can unfold in so many ways, I guess depending on how "bad" it was in the first place and other factors. You'd think families could find a way to keep from warring though, but I guess it's never been that way, if you read Shakespeare anyway.
I believe I read that was going to be his electric band-maybe I should go for it (have seen him quite a few times, especially the past few years, but not electric in 20+ years).
Oh the chaos, we had a thunderstorm overnight on Saturday, and she hid under the bed and growled at it. Came up to snuggle, lather, rinse, repeat. Looking forward to seeing your kitteh pics!
It's the people who are closest to you that are the easiest to hurt. So if you're someone who feels the need to hurt people (whether it's to assert dominance, feel better about your own pain, whatever), family members are the easiest targets.
I once heard a comic describe Thanksgiving dinner as "a slow painful jouney into the bowels of hell, where we psychologically abuse one another and then we have pie"
I never thought of it that way but it's a good way of making sense of what's so hard to make sense of: someone, a family member, deliberately causing hurt.
My record pusher sold me this 80s Maddy Prior Band rekkid last week. I haven't listened to it yet but he said this sounds how you hoped all the 80s British folk heroes records sounded. www.discogs.com...
Well said, nyc. I've been going through that lately. The good thing is that I recognize it's going on. I don't respond and just go home and slowly bang my head against the wall for about 5 minutes - hahaha!

Speaking of Nico, it was weird hearing her during the televised NFL draft. Some commercial used "I'll Be Your Mirror" and it seemed to play every half hour.
It blocks anything it considers "entertainment"; I can't listen to WFMU through the computers here (though I can post on the web pages), I have to use my phone as a internet connection, onto an old iPad, into a speaker.
One of the lovely things about my workplace-they don't ask, don't care what people here think (which is also good-I rarely deal with the higher ups...)

Song:
"Who Knows Where the Time Goes" by "Lonnie Donegan"
Just listened to Denny's demo version of this. Always an interesting tune, but can't get past the fact (opinion) that by comparison to the version on the second Fairport Convention album , every other version kinda stinks
Hi Joe, I'm not a frequent contributor to to this chat board but a more frequent listener... i waqs wondering if it'd be ok to plug my instagram page...

Song:
"Down from Dover" by "Nancy Sinatra and Lee Hazlew...
A phrase from FMU's legendary "That's Irritainment" video compilation comes to mind to describe Lee's voice here: "a voice as deep as Hitler's bunker."
A handful of years ago Glen Hansard opened for Richard Thompson. They did that one together. I won't compare it to the original, because the voices were totally different. But it was a good version. Probably still on YouTube.
hi some listeners may have seen my spiel before, but for those who haven't...i have been posting cut up poetry based on headlines of a certain newspaper mostly late night, and compiled about a hundred and posted them to instagram...so if you feel so inclined, please take a look... www.instagram.com...
I have the album (in stereo ) that this is on. I missed the Single File set & don't remember this version of Crying Game too well but Jimmy Page plays on the LP & there's at least one rocking cut on it. There's a version of Dancing in the Street w some fuzz bass too. I'm also a Dave Berry fan
Hey folks- I need your assistance. The next song I'm going to play reminds me HUGELY of an old garage rock/pop psych song with a refrain that had a "she cried no no no no no" kind of thing that followed the same chord changes. Free bumper sticker to anyone who can identify the song I'm thinking of.
Hi tom tom! I’m not on any socials besides the FMU board but wanted to say I like a couple of pieces. Do you prefer working on computer or with real paper?
"Is It True" is the cut I was thinking of . It's very good. It actually does have some lush elements but features, as I said , some very nasty freak beatin Jimmy Page guitar
John Lennon must have know the song when he wrote "She said no, no, no, you're wrong..." But that's no help. I know how these things can drive you crazy. For three days I couldn't remember the name of the Jam's bass player and it finally came to me when I was trying to fall asleep in the middle of the night.
One time for about two days I had the melody of Neil Young's The Loner in my head, the orchestrated part, and could not remember what it was. came to me suddenly while walking the dogs, but drove me nuts
C'est une poupée, qui fait non, non, non, non, non, non
Toute la journée, elle fait non, non, non, non, non, non
Elle est, elle est tellement jolie
Que j'en rêve la nuit
I get little parts of songs stuck all the time. Most recently it was the very last part of the Butthole Surfers "PSY". Couldn't place it for the longest time. I try to just enjoy the tunes in my head and try not to let it bother me too much if I can't remember the sources...
I think that's the version I must be thinking of, the one by the Birds. But, yeah, Polnareff! Damn, feels good to have that cleared up! Jenny Don't is clearly a fan of that song.
