I think the only Star Wars thing I really like post original trilogy was the first season of the Mandalorian and Andor. I’d watch a lot more Star Wars if they made some bolder choices to make decent movies and shows. Bertolucci’s “The Conformist,” set after “Return of the Jedi?” I’d watch that.

The classic example is Dagwood, whom everyone seems to try to voice like Arthur Lake, who played him in live action. Arthur Lake got SOME of the character right, but there's plenty of Dagwood balloons I hear in a very different voice from that.

Re CGI; if one has seen original PACIFIC RIM (kaiju) by Guillermo del Toro, on a big theater screen, it’s so beautiful (for a monster movie!) it seriously shrinks the experience on a big flatscreen.

  6:44pm
KWilde:

The problem with CGI is it leaves less and less to the imagination of the viewer. People have been going to the theatre since the beginning of time expecting artifice - suspending disbelief.
I also think it’s ridiculous to cast voice actors solely because they are known stars but I suppose that sells tickets or helps in funding the film - selling it to investors

I am infatuated with Flory Pugh - so my thoughts don’t count.
