Chomsky is fascinating yet also highly problematic in some ways. He even took a pro-Khmer Rouge stance at one point and as far as I know, he never rescinded it.

Or at least an apologetic / denialist stance on their atrocities. That's part of what attracts people to him (the mystique of someone who takes positions like that -- and never retreats)

Well that's odd. Perhaps a side effect of the U.S. involvement in IndoChina.

He's not a talking head, but it's not like he's banned from MSM. He was all over TV news long before many of us were politically conscious, has been interviewed by the NYT recently, etc.

Jherweg:

Chomsky did take some highly controversial stances, and I think about what a more robust political debate we had in the days of William F Buckley debates. Network News killed real debate by the late 80s. It was too big a liability to air anyone taking a hard anti military industrial stance when Lockheed, Ge and Boeing are paying for the advertising .
Avatar 10:51pm
tom tom the pipers son:

↳ Jherweg @10:44
did you see chomsky/ buckley debate? on youtube... you're right in respects with what network news will allow but i wouldn't call it a real debate, buckley actually threatens chomsky physically once, and has no real position, he just obfuscates. chomsky corrects his facts more than once
  10:53pm
headcleaner:

↳ Jherweg @10:44
One suspects (per Chomsky's analysis) they aren't so much concerned about people taking anti-military stances -- but to people genuinely debating and thinking about these things, period (as opposed to having continually histrionic and melodramatic response to them, as is most public discourse these days). That's what's been effectively quashed over the years
Avatar 10:57pm
tom tom the pipers son:

a friend who was a photog asst and was on a job at william f buckley's home, he said that buckley lived like louis the XIV, lots of gold gimcrackry and a uniformed manservant waiting on him, a person of color of course
