The Radio Is Broken is a three-hour spelunk through the canyons and fissures of humanity's collective unconscious. It sounds as if a field recording of the Culture Industry were a sonic juggernaut barreling down a rickety track—except that tunnel ahead is just painted onto a sheer cliff wall. With occasional forays into what might pass for "normal" music. Prerequisite journey: Cratedigger's Lung

hey it worked out for me, once anyway...or twice. she got a potato sack-like "pocketbook" and had stolen a stack of 45s, maybe 18" tall. so for xmas i got a 45 of Sly & the family Stone's "family affair". it was an odd selection for me, a little kid who liked uptempo music.
she probably just randomly chose it from her random haul.
then on my birthday, ~a month later, she gave me another copy of it - not remembering. this worked out well as i gradually grew to Love the song -and had a backup copy!

it's maligned by some people because it's different, having a slightly unique personnel for them. but they have their heads up their collective ass!

I remember Van Vliet being asked about them around this time, the interviewer mentioning they had a similar approach (unintentionally, I think, loading the question against them), "well, they TRY" he said (he also trashed The Residents, calling them 'trash poets' and 'awful')

↳ Song: "Radar Love" by "Sun City Girls"
I saw the Replacments scorch this in concert. Then they did "Summer of '69" with some rewriting: "Sittin'in my mama's womb/I thught that it would last forever/Those were the best days of my life"

I think I remember one time coming across a novelty store that sold tooth caps with painted images on them.

Yep, "The Faculty", sort of Kafka's "The Trial" meets Cal State Fullerton Film School. I'm in one scene!

Might've been a Spencers store. They sold all sorts of cool oddball stuff.

I'm sure it doesn't need to be mentioned that Gainsbourg was a notorious womanizer. There's a video on YouTube of him appearig on a French TV talk show and Whitney Houston was also a guest. Look it up and see for yourself what happens.

Thanks, Rich! Enjoy your month off!
