Obscure musical gems, avant experimentation, and classics worth rehearing. A conurbation of Leslie speakers, timbales, plungers, arch-tops, tablas, and squeaky reeds. Black ties, pork pies, Cuban boots, Nudie suits, bobbysocks, turtlenecks, and high-heeled sneakers. Jazz is the north star but it’s a wide universe, so says The Laughing Clock.

So I might be short on the next mic break: I saw my therapist this week and observed that I got super choked up when trying to articulate the music that was meaningful to me, and I was told: DJ-ing is part of your creativity, and that's located in the brain near emotion.

So I won't go into what these specific tracks mean to me, but I think you'll get it.

Hey I just have to comment on your culture and countries soliloquy just now. Well stated my Lord! I say "race is a social construct, however culture is very real, and perhaps most consequential societal aspect of all". chat GPT I understand Walter old said race is a social construct the other day and I almost shit, then I realized I didn't coin that phrase. But that is exceedingly well thought, I think people's misconception may stem from something I go on about, how the stability the United Nations has created in the world, how many generations deep now, created this false sense of security, and many delusions are born of the peace and stability, sorry to say it, America has caused. Young people live in this world where borders are static seemingly eternal which is where country and culture get confused people are so granted safety and peace here in America they actually perceive freedom of speech as a threat, as nasty words are some of them worst violence they can imagine. I'll just go on and on but that was such a great angle that supplements a lot of my own brevity, had to say it

First, if I'm reading the comments properly, then my condolences to our DJ. It is so very hard to deal with the cycle of life, which entails not only loss, but also reflection upon our own mortality, which is surely a fair concern.

Second, my beloved Down Home Records had a 1/2 price sale on used digital. I will not live long enough to give due time to the records I've acquired in recent years, thank you very much WFMU, but the experience alone of strolling the aisles, selecting goodies almost at random, and departing having spent so very little is a revivifying one.

I've been listening to live recordings of Miles's second great quintet (Shorter, Hancock, et al.), which I think maybe made the greatest music in jazz. *However*, all the people involved then went on to do other things, mostly rock or fusiony. I think this was a loss, as their incredible improvisations could have been spread more widely and with a bigger repertoire. BUT Shorter essentially returned to that approach with this group, in which each member was trusted to go off in their own direction, and the other group members would figure it out. Although Miles insisted on doing something new every couple of years, there was more to be done in this vein. In my humble opinion!!

I'm sure this wasn't an easy show to do, DJP, but you did it! Thanks as always.

Hi.
Missed the first announcement, picked up what happened from the comments, but, again, my condolences.
Dug the Wayne Shorter-I got to see that band at NJPAC (a woefully underattended concert-MsJazz came with me, found it boring-it's pretty abstract-and read a book the whole time).
The Holland was cool-more rocking than I'd expect. (that whole set was moving indeed).
Haven't gotten through the Hutcherson Mosaic box yet, too much music, too little time...
OK, end of Monday Morning Quarterbacking...

Belated thanks for this ep, DJP. A moving tribute, and a welcome return. I was especially grateful to hear all of that EI/new complexity music in the first set. But it was all great -- that Hutcherson box continues to deliver.
