Well, of the two recently inherited houses we have had to be dealing with for over a month, we are thinking of keeping the big old family farmhouse as a second home, and buying out the two other heirs on that house. Mary Ellen was born here in Lafayette and went to ULL undergrad (in those days, U of Southwestern LA), before Harvard Law. -- The other house is being sold off with the proceeds going to 14 cousins of the decedent, after it's in shape to sell.

Unfortunately, I have nothing to compare it to since I haven't read the others. The narrative is based on extensive interviews or archived interviews, letters, etc with Nick's parents, sister, college friends, fellow musicians who were friends, and those who worked on his records (Joe Boyd, John Wood, photographers, etc). The author takes a fairly objective tone. He stays away from popular characterizations of Nick like "tortured genius". Details of Nick spending time with friends and descriptions of Nicks live shows are very detailed.

I'm curious how this book compares to other biographies now.

I've been listening in for the whole show but up to my neck in other stuff. I had to log in to say that I grew up about 30 minutes from the old Rte 66 and it was pretty boring! You really would be throwing away your whole life to go there. The green chili is about the only thing that could pull me back, and that's more a NM thing than an AZ thing anyway.

I see we were on the same vibe here, Wild Neil. I grew up in AZ about 30 miles south of Holbrook. Nothing but pig farms and turkey buzzards.

My own biased opinion is that driving it is 100x better than living there! It's really gorgeous country.

Albuequerque really feels like the largest city in one of the poorest states wtih the worst schools. The hiking is good, but the state is so super impovershed.

NMSU is really nice down in Las Cruces however. An idyllic island in the middle of a crapload of deserted nothingness. The opposite of New Jersey.

Not sure why the Mexican food is better in NM than AZ but it really is. Our lives were more oriented toward Phoenix than ABQ but I wish we'd spent some more time looking east. I would like to make it to the Lightning Fields at some point.

My boss will NOT eat Mexican food in any other state than NM. NOBODY does it right in his opinion. Calfornia seems to do an ok job in my opinion.
