It's not the lack of guitar so much as the potential for a really sweet song being shown to us then passed over for something else. Is that something else valid and good, yes. But it pulled me out of dub mode into reggae mode then put me back. My switch is sticky.

in my earliest days of exploring reggae i went to a store in elizabeth nj had 5-6" worth in the reggae section. most were $8 which was about the highest an album ever cost back then, and i didn't want to spend that much on something i knew nothing about. so i bought 2-3 records that were a few dollars less. one was LKJ in DUB. i enjoyed it, but i'd never heard of Linton Kwesi Johnson before... what a revelation a couple years later when i finally heard his regular tracks -the non-dub releases.
...putting it together.

YES! ...but then (and actually, a little earlier) i also heard garvey's ghost first. my first dub - never heard of dub.man that changed my world in a big way! i still consider it one of reggae's Greatest masterpieces.
...then when i heard the marcus garvey album i was disappointed. -so, the opposite of my LKJ experience!
