Others I consider part of that period would be Keith Emerson's band The Nice, Dave Edmunds and Love Sculpture, transitionary Pink Floyd, etc. Then there's the Canterbury scene, which some even consider a parallel genre.

prog wouldn't exist without classical music, and they merged classical and pop/rock as well as or better than anyone else

Pistols's EMI & Graham Parker's Mercury Poisoning spring to mind. & Nick Lowe has a non-specific one "I love my label (& my label loves me)".
