My English teacher, who was probably younger than I am right now brought in some of his favorite records, which for the most part were big band 78's. He was very taciturn by nature, but when he played these shellac sides, he really got excited - snapping his fingers and swaying from side to side. He actually solicited our opinion, and wanted feedback. This one kid, who was already showing signs of been a gangster in the making said "Yeah, can I break it?" The teacher looked heart broken, and turned back into a sour-puss. So much for broadening the minds of young people.

As for The Church, its history of the abuse of power is long. All through the middle ages, it manipulated people. Motivated them to go out an slaughter others in the name of a magic kingdom. A very human institution the Church. Actually, all three 'religions of the book', Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, in light of what they are motivating people to both believe and do, are looking pretty bad to me. We really only have ourselves, us poor timorous chimpanzees, shivering in the rain, frightened of what lurks beyond the trees. Our dilemma is kind of touching, even while being totally terrifying at the moment.

Motivated them to go out an slaughter others in the name of a magic kingdom. A very human institution the Church. Actually, all three 'religions of the book', Judaism, Christianity, and Islam, in light of what they are motivating people to both believe and do, are looking pretty bad to me. We really only have ourselves, us poor timorous chimpanzees, shivering in the rain, frightened of what lurks beyond the trees. Our dilemma is kind of touching, even while being totally terrifying at the moment.
