I'm not sure about the ironic part (though, I suppose with all the gear used for recordings, I can see it). But the audiophile mantra has always been minimal miking (well placed, of course), no overdubbing/live in the studio, as they did in the golden age classical music recording, the 60's (RCA Living Stereo recordings, Mercury Living Presence LP's go for big bucks, at least the last time I checked).

Cooder & Byatt was Water Lily Acoustic's ascension to the big time. Kavi Alexander avoided digital until that record. He worked closely with Tim de Paravicini, whose tube gear--amps, microphones--contributed to Kavi's sound.

Obviously individual factors are as relevant as World Events & Age Cohort factors. Most of the middle hump of Boomers weren't Hippies on the street in SF - many were just hornrimmed straights - & too many went to Nam... DonaldDrumpf is a 'Boomer' for that matter ...but how we consider Cohorts changes over time too doesn't it...
The Nativity - & the Events when Coming of Age, good point. The Boomers 'proper' had a certain energy - combined with all that happened in the 1960s for example - & I was born in the early~mid1960s...

A little about Ed McCurdy: A veteran of the folk scene in New York and a sort of paternal figure, McCurdy sang many a rustic folk song and traditional ballad, but he also made several LPs of ribald Elizabethan songs—dubbed lyrica erotica, which sold quite well. His best known work is the powerful anti-war song “Last Night I Had the Strangest Dream,” which Simon & Garfunkel covered on their first album.

Pro tip for Holiday travel; the bar in the airport is not the place to try a “signature cocktail”. Get a beer, or a wine, or a vodka soda. But for the love of god do not order the signature cocktail.
