I attribute the tom-toms in the 70's to Ronnie Tutt's amazing drumming with Elvis and also Hal Blaine and his roto-toms that were on quite a few big hits. Once someone makes money with a certain sound, it gets copied until it runs out of steam and something else replaces it

I have a Cyrkle best-of CD from the early '90s, and I don't remember this song being on it. That just might mean I haven't listened to it in too long, though. I liked that collection a lot. I think I bought it the same day as I bought the Left Banke collection CD (which has just about every studio recording by the Left Banke). I think I got them both at Tower Records on Broadway? I also got a Zombies best-of around then, also. I was discovering music by bands if potentially assumed were boring. They weren't boring.

Great interview!

Agree with Michael here -- the band did often get a lot promo and "major" label support/chances. It's unfortunate they didn't hit big on the large mainstream level, but it's their nonmainstream quirks that attracts so much of the devoted "weirdo" audience! Mainstream popularity would have required a lot of the edges to get cut off.

All true - I knew her as the quiet studious housemates of some gregarious girls. I just think it's amazing that she had this gift in her, and it didn't really find expression until she was out of college. Most people know they want to be a performer on some level.
