Seascapers  Comforting Ocean Waves 2   Favoriting Comforting Ocean Waves  Lotus Sound  2021      0:00:00 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Nose Holes  Lush Box   Favoriting Danger Dance  Chu Chu  2019  Noseholes debut 12” LP “Danger Danger ” takes the listener on a journey in a scruffy taxi – unexpectedly cruising through dirty, muddy streets into a neighbourhood in which discotheques are sparsely improvised in shabby basements. Whilst the EP reminds of a wicked journey to a kind of fake jazz – a disco infused variety of Post Punk / No Wave is now taking its place instead. Groovy, catchy underground hits (Styling, Danger Dance, Lush Box) mixed with experimental songs in weird languages (Yelzins Affair), a No Wave Grumble Rap (Ex Driver) and nerve-wrecking Saxophone improvisation (Aspirin Nation). Minimalists and day-thieves on instruments, effects, bongos, saxophone and trumpet. Foreign elements of dance-music. “Noseholes” are from Hamburg, do sound like New York tho! (Trust Magazine / Stone). The minimalism and musical approach of Noseholes reminds of bands such as Bush Tetras, Contortions, Shopping or Nachthexen. (X-Mist Records)    0:02:10 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Femme Fiction  Trench Coat   Favoriting NONFICTION  Donkey Kong's Label  2023  I love this band so much. There isn't much on the internet...no bandcamp...I can't even find the fucking label. I can't understand how they only have 645 follower on insta. They are playing the Troubador in January and I would do anything to see them. Funny, sexy, feminist, smart, mysterious...and oh so talented.    0:03:57 (MP3 | Pop-up)
TV Girl feat George Clanton  Yesterday's World   Favoriting Fauxlennium EP  Blissful Serenity  2024  The fevered whispers you’ve been hearing through the grapevine are true. TV Girl and George Clanton, “The Bad Boys of Indie-Electro Pop”, have temporarily put aside their differences to give the people exactly what they need in these trying times: a mini-album of hedonistic headbangers to make you forget your wretched circumstances (if only for a half hour or so). The LP is en titled “FAUXLLENNIUM” and is “dropping” on DEC 2. GC is from LA and is a "multidisciplinary artist revered for his DIY approach to everything - including managing his own record label (100% Electronica), and curating multiple music festivals - George is best known for his contributions to underground music."  *   0:06:15 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Strange Flesh  The Hardest Thing to Burn Is The Heart   Favoriting The Hardest Thing to Burn Is The Heart  House of Zed.  2024  ‘The Hardest Thing to Burn Is the Heart’ is the new album from Brooklyn’s finest angular pop duo, Strange Flesh, released 6th December ‘24 via House of Zed. The heart. We all have a complex relationship with that tough, often inscrutable organ, and Strange Flesh are no exception. Varrick's beats a little too fast. Ed's sounds as though it's being played backward. And on their new album, they journey into some of the heart’s darkest, most mysterious recesses. For fants of detached, sexy, lush minimalism...yes, Strange Flesh are masters at it. Go to bandcamp now to DL and own...there are 30 limited edition CD copies, hand sprayed packaging with melted hearts.  *   0:10:17 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Rebecca Ryskalczyk  Say it Back   Favoriting Say it Back  ryskullfuck  2023  Singer-songwriter and guitarist Rebecca Ryskalczyk is best known for fronting Brooklyn indie-rock outfit Bethlehem Steel. The band formed at the State University of New York at Fredonia and later relocated to New York City, where it established a gloriously fuzzy yet indie-pop-adjacent sound. he band is only one of Ryskalczyk's musical endeavors, however. The Buffalo, N.Y., native, who moved to Bristol last year, also fronts DAMP, an indie-rock supergroup of sorts featuring members of Washer and Pile. These days when she's on her own, Ryskalczyk's music tends to push toward a more synth-heavy, dark-wave sound. Her latest release, Say It Back, simmers with an undeniable undercurrent of seething frustration throughout....The title track is something of a thesis statement for Ryskalczyk, who originally planned on releasing Say It Back as a series of singles over months. In an email, she said she ended up dropping the whole album on November 14 because she didn't want to "play the game of putting singles out or taking up more space right now while we are watching a genocide in real time," referring to the Israel-Hamas war currently raging in the Middle East. "The track 'Say It Back' is exactly how I feel right now," she wrote. "I do hope that this track might help some of you who get told 'You can't save them' feel less alone. Maybe we can't, but at least we're fucking trying."    0:13:25 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Warmduscher feat Leanne Le Havas  Body Shock   Favoriting Too Cold To Hold  Strap Originals  2024  One of the best albums of the year continues to deliver. The evolution of this band has been fascinating to watch, as their vignettes and observations of the seedy side of life grow more and more musically refined, subversive and menacing. London based band Warmduscher, embodies the freewheeling spirit of punk in its purest form! Warmdusher entered the zeitgeist when members of ‘Fat White Family’ and ‘Paranoid London’ came together to play a New Year’s Eve house party in 2014. Four records later, the band has made a name for themselves as irreverent funkified post-punk bulwarks with mischief steadily coursing through their veins.  *   0:15:49 (MP3 | Pop-up)

THE STARXZ  T!kTok Rots My Brains   Favoriting T!kTok Rots My Brains Single  Self Released  2024  Brain rot is an internet term that describes the mental fatigue and decline that can result from consuming too much online content. It can be caused by mindlessly scrolling through social media, binge-watching videos, or switching between browser tabs. Symptoms of brain rot include: Difficulty concentrating Memory loss Mood swings Difficulty making decisions Difficulty with speech or communication Emotional instability To avoid brain rot, you can try: Getting enough sleep, Avoiding screens before bed, Exercising regularly, and Thinking positively.  *   0:27:55 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Thee Headshrinkers  Sunday Driver   Favoriting Head Cheese  Property of the Lost  2024  Proto punk band from Hastings, UK who cite garage trashabilly straddling the line between The Stooges and The Fall Influences: the post-Manson 1960s, vintage guitars and the Texas Chainsaw Massacre soundtrack. Recorded over three days at Ranscombe Studios with Jim "Medway Sound" Riley at the controls. Mostly laid down with one take .. These are twelve tracks driven by the bass line, with no middle eights, making repetition an art form. Rob Wilde spits on past beefs, characters from his misspent youth and horror B movies. Gino turns his Vox Phantom into a full fuzz incendiary device, all held together by Stiv’s fast and loose garage beat.  *   0:29:58 (MP3 | Pop-up)
The Froobz  Big Boy   Favoriting Big Boy Single  Self Released  2024  Possibly one of my favourite named bands of the year..The Froobs are "Female punk band based in central Scotland, here to bring joy to your ears and bring you to tears." After forming only last year, The Froobz have five singles under their belt and have played with some Scottish legends, including The Vaselines. “We’ve spent a lot of time trying to think what song to record next. It has been clear during performances that Big Boy always gets one of the most rowdy reactions whenever/wherever we play it live. The positive reaction and feedback we received about it made it a no brainer to record it and release it as our next single,” the trio said. Big Boy tells the tale of the man who boasts he has his life together, yet it is a complete disaster. These men don’t cook, clean, or earn anything for themselves, rather they expect it to be given to them. It is reflective of past relationships that the band has had, while showcasing The Froobz’s “loud and unhinged attitude”.    0:32:09 (MP3 | Pop-up)
The Twistettes  Big Boned   Favoriting Big Boned Single  Traffic Cone Records  2024  Scotland's Big Boned is a raucous pounding track with The Twistettes signature growling, distorted bass and driving drums. It is smothered in satirical simplicity, poking holes at societies obsession with body image as well as the wider discussions about human value, all is connected. This is the official debut single from the bands new studio album will be out in 2025. “In a paradigm where women are expected to be smaller, quieter, take up less space – heaven forbid we be too loud, too fat, too weird, too flamboyant – this song asks, ‘Am I too much? Well, you can kiss my hole’.”    0:34:38 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Sticky Baby  Savage Baby   Favoriting Stick Baby Forever  Self-Released  2024  "Snotty fucking rad mega cute, punk as fuck! Sticky baby will twist your balls off and serve them to you for ear protection, you better wear them... ...Stockholm based punk band Sticky Baby formed in September 2019 and consists of Sticky Hed (vocals), Sticky Hildy (bass), Sticky Steff (guitar) & Sticky Ali (drums)." //// They are like CSS fronting early Ohsees. WHY IS THERE NOTHING ABOUT THIS BAND ON THE INTERWEBS!?    0:36:50 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Hööf  Fun Fair   Favoriting Houseplants/Funfair Single  Hööf Records  2023  This is more power poppy than I usually go but the East Bay Ray surf guitar and slammin drums...paired with IRRESISTABLY CANDY NICE chord progressions warms my heart. They are from Oxford, UK....    0:39:13 (MP3 | Pop-up)
goo  Call In Sick   Favoriting Call in Sick Single  Drawing Board Records  2022  "Wonderful, fuzzy, sunshine-saturated indie-punk from Keighley" Some of their other singles include: "Tiny Dinosaur That Only I Can See, "You're In Mono / Maladroit, "Heck, "FOMO, and "Underground or Overseas. The band is: Tanisha Badman - Vocals, Guitar Sam Drury - Guitar Bryn Price - Bass Kurt Wood - Drums, Vocals Ella Roberts - Ranting    0:42:04 (MP3 | Pop-up)
PLRLS  Curses   Favoriting Curses  Ashtray Monument  2023  An album that is so delightfully awesome and bonkers I can't believe we missed it last year but it's NEVER too late!!! band from Baltimore Maryland. They have made music together since 2011. This music has been described as New Wave and/or Post Punk with a certain Operatic/Surfy twang and bizarre dance-ability. They are my new favourite band this week. They are: a disgraced nightclub owner (Ottobar); a shattered TV personality (Ace of Cakes); an ex-chauffeur; a failed tennis player; and the inventor of the Neutron bomb .    0:44:57 (MP3 | Pop-up)

OCS  Block of Ice (Live)   Favoriting OCS LIVE AT PERMANENT ROADHOUSE  Rock is Hell  2024  This version released November 29, 2024. One of my all-time favourite OCS, Thee Oh Sees, Osees, etc. songs. There are various live, studio & so forth versions. I have threatened to play all versions of this song (though, is it really a threat if they're all awesome?) Another epic version here. Notable also: some melding of "Ghost In The Trees" into the lyric blender. Most fitting, as both Block Of Ice and Ghost In The Trees are from the same album "The Master's Bedroom Is Worth Spending a Night In" [Thee Oh Sees' (+ variants) seventh studio album, back in 2008]" Lineup for this performance: John Dwyer Guitars, vocals & haken synth // Brigid Dawson Vocals, tambourine & Shruti // ++ On Block Of Ice: Tom Dolas electric piano // Nick Murray drums // Andres Renteria hand percussion // live sounds by COS the Casual Prince // Mixed by JPD // Mastered by JJ Golden ////////// https://ocsmusic.bandcamp.com/  *   0:59:47 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Red Lorry Yellow Lorry  Driving Black (Ding's Remix)   Favoriting Driving Black EP  Cop International  2024  Red Lorry Yellow Lorry Share the Driving Black EP – Their First New Single In 33 Years; released in full on December 6, 2024 //// "Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, the seminal post-punk band from Leeds, UK, formed in 1981. Known for their dark, jarring, minimalist sound, the Lorries carved out their niche with a unique blend of punk, post-punk, and industrial influences. Their music radiates a raw, hypnotic energy, led by founding member Chris Reed’s cavernous, brooding vocals; and by Reed and longtime guitarist Dave ‘Wolfie’ Wolfenden’s angular, droning, wall-of-sound guitars. Their early trademark style was driven along by grinding bass, and an almost industrial hybrid of drum-machines and primal live percussion; while later output saw Reed and Wolfenden’s co-writing partnership mature and develop towards a more melodic, song-driven direction. //////// The band achieved critical acclaim and significant cultural influence in the 1980s, with the albums Talk About the Weather (1985), Paint Your Wagon (1986), Nothing Wrong (1988), and Blow (1989), before calling it a day with fifth album, Blasting Off (1992). At the height of their influence and success, singles like ‘Monkeys on Juice’, ‘Hollow Eyes’, ‘Spinning Round’, ‘Cut Down’ and ‘Crawling Mantra’ were among the band’s biggest indie chart hits, while ‘Talk About the Weather’, ‘Walking on Your Hands’, ‘Nothing Wrong’ and ‘Temptation’ became enduring underground anthems. Over the years, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry built a dedicated following that remains with them to this day; their uncompromising sound leaving a lasting influence on the darker edges of post-punk, alternative rock, and gothic rock, despite the band rejecting the goth tag themselves. /////// COP International is incredibly proud to add another milestone release to the discography of this iconic band. The band’s first new studio record in more than thirty years, the Driving Black EP serves as a tantalizing prelude to their forthcoming album Strange Kind of Paradise (due February 2025). The EP offers three exclusive tracks alongside three distinctive mixes from the upcoming album, including one by the legendary producer John Fryer, renowned for his work with Depeche Mode, Nine Inch Nails, and Cocteau Twins; and another by the Lorries’ own bassist and producer, Simon ‘Ding’ Archer, known for his work with The Fall, 1919, PJ Harvey, and Pixies, who brings his signature experimental edge to the production. //////// The Driving Black EP will be released as a limited-edition coloured vinyl 12” EP – only 1,000 copies available worldwide. With its stunning four-color sleeve, two-page inlay, and PVC collector’s bag, this release is destined to become an instant collector’s item for Lorries fans and vinyl enthusiasts alike. //////// Red Lorry Yellow Lorry’s legacy lives on, and this new chapter promises to be as powerful and uncompromising as ever." https://redlorryyellowlorry.bandcamp.com/  *   1:17:42 (MP3 | Pop-up)
HOUSE Of ALL  Born At Dawn And Dead At Sunset   Favoriting HOUSE Of ALL SOULS  Tiny Global Recordings  2024 / 2025  Martin Bramah and his crew of ex-Fall veterans add another to the mix in original Fall drummer Karl Burns. This brings the total drummer count in the band to 3, but concurrently, all employed at the same time for this new album! HOUSE Of ALL appear to be on a trajectory to cycle through members as much as The Fall ever did, except no-one actually leaves, more just join. From Tiny Global Productions' newsleter: "HOUSE Of ALL SOULS . . . with Karl Burns! It may be the worst-kept secret in the Greater Manchester music scene, but yes . . . Karl Burns has joined HOUSE Of ALL as their third drummer. And by that we mean the third all at once, not the third in a series of comings and goings! //// Where's Karl been and what does this mean? We wish we could tell you, but it's more than a little mysterious even to us. What it does mean is that on the next album, you'll hear three separate drum combos: the incredible Hanley / Wolstencroft pairing, the return of the Wolstencroft / Burns combo first heard on Middle Class Revolt, and of course some Burns / Hanley interplay as in the days of Hex Enduction Hour. //// We bet you can't wait for the new album, so rather than taunt you with news of a future announcement, we're taking preorders for it today! //// HOUSE OF ALL SOULS is the name, and we maintain that, without question it's their most superb long-player yet - ten new songs, several alternate universe hits and a few surprises! The music feels more like a band than ever before, and we're rather amazed by it. Each HOUSE Of ALL regular member's present, and in addition to the drummers, that's Martin, Pete and Stephen, and Pete's live fill-in, Phil Lewis, adds guitar, too. (One of our favourite songs has a sensational part where Pete, Phil and Martin play different guitar lines at the same time . . . pure ecstasy.) //// HOUSE Of ALL will be touring in Spring 2025, booked by Nightingales' own Fliss Kitson via Void Artists . . . watch for an announcement about that on Friday. We are offering a very limited edition translucent white vinyl version for early orders, so act now; we're also working on another surprise which will likely go along with that limited offering, too. //// But that's only if you order from Bandcamp, though, so hop to it!" https://houseofall.bandcamp.com/  *   1:21:33 (MP3 | Pop-up)

The Seven Pillars   Favoriting

Ou Phrontis

Tzadik

2024

"Ou Phrontis means “Who Cares” in Greek. Inscribed on the lintel above the door of T.E. Lawrence’s cottage at Clouds Hill it symbolized a place where Lawrence felt at home, free from the cares of the world. This fourth CD from the dynamic piano trio of Brian Marsella, Jorge Roeder, and Ches Smith (Suite for Piano, The Fourth Way, Ballades), presents eight challenging Zorn compositions inspired by stoic philosophy and science. The telepathic interplay and virtuosity of these remarkable musical masters is on full display here—a stunning collection of music that makes you think as much as it makes you feel."

The Entrepreneurs  (What's So Fucking Strange About) My Idea   Favoriting The Wrestlers  Crunchy Frog  2021  The Entrepreneurs are back with ‘Wrestler’. Thematically, the album deals with the personal and the social with broad stylistic references, tied together with stringent and off-kilter arrangements. ‘Wrestler’ is a mature creative statement from one of Denmark’s wildest rock bands.    1:32:03 (MP3 | Pop-up)
DRILL  Rusted   Favoriting Permanent  DRILL  2024  DRILL’S first and last LP, Permanent, listens like a many sided die. The intrepid trio wired in eight songs, recorded live in two days by Lucas Knapp out of a basement in Philly. Seems the band really took that one Pink Floyd song to heart - instead of fading away, they’re slamming a resignation notice on your desk and then promptly setting fire to the building. With Permanent, DRILL has issued a decisively freaky last missive that pans from artful noise pop to dialed in hardcore punk. hough the album is titled Permanent, everything about it is about a series of goodbyes. Ultimately, even the insert instructs you not to be too precious with it: it contains instructions which direct you to fold the insert into a boat and sail it away. Cheeky as always, the band says goodbye in the only way they know how– the last line of it reads: Remember: Nothing is permanent. We have played another song of theirs recently called "Within Reason"...which is also great.    1:35:42 (MP3 | Pop-up)
BAUS  Big Back Cloak   Favoriting Walls 7"  OakLangeles  2024  BAUS hail from Oakland, CA and make excellent modern twitchy post punk...not too dissimilar from Crack Cloud or Automatic and French Vanilla and that's a great thing. Twitch smark post punk for people in need of some good songs to yell along to.    1:37:30 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Stuart Pearce  Robotnik   Favoriting Red Sport International  Safe Suburban Home Records  2024  Hailing from Nottingham, they are "UK's premier beat combo"... Composite: dialectical materialism w/conventional instrumentation n a world obsessed with trends; where keeping up with algorithm diktat occupies contemporary musicians'; where the obsession with capturing minute bursts of attention trumps exploration of the creative impulse – SP stand tall and reject; forging their own path and celebrating those that stick to their vision and ignore all the noise from the sidelines...exploring 60s Psychedelia and 80s Jangle Pop, combines it with contemporary production and a general disdain for the demands of a deformed culture industry, to turn out a cohesive three-minute pop single.    1:39:43 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Le Bang  Ice Cream Man   Favoriting Robot Island  Bulldog Records  2024  Lola has invented an immersive universe for her band and the upcoming album which will cross over into our world in two days. The tone of Le Bang’s comic book creation is playful, mischievous, and punk rock. Robot Island consists of “pop-y punk songs that will be stuck in your head for weeks,” Lancón explains. “Some songs reference real life scenarios (good or bad) in surrealist comedic lights. The whole point of this album is to make angry littles punks shake their butt and to introduce everyone to our comic book world. Robot Island, the name of the album, will also be the name of our ongoing comic series that dives deeper into each band member’s antihero persona. Some cool shit overall.” As a little kid, Lola was torn between two potential lines of work–Superhero or Rockstar. “I think that childhood dream just stuck with me through the years. I have this very vivid memory of me dressing up as Spiderman and singing along to Blur songs on my speaker,” Lancón recalls. This screams early Brooklyn 2000s and a far more innocent time. I am so ready for this throwback.    1:43:17 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Berliner Doom  Mehr Bier Mit Dir   Favoriting Wer das hört ist doom  Doom  2023  The Berlin based trio mainly ceates a mix of punk and neuer deutscher welle wave with songs less than 1 minute. This record is a Postpunk stomper, bassy, monotonous and as sticky as last week's garbage. Smoothly recorded in Berlin.    1:45:53 (MP3 | Pop-up)
Bait Bag  Pockets   Favoriting If They Call You Girls EP  Bait Bag  2022  This is an anthem for all women. Founded in 2018 by Fiona Robins, Claire Donnelly, and Courtney Naliboff, BAIT BAG has shared the stage with punk and indie legends Deerhoof, Screaming Females, Rough Francis, and Weakened Friends, and made friends and fans from Newwwew York Citaaaaay to Machias.    1:46:59 (MP3 | Pop-up)

Don Ralke was an American music arranger, composer, and record producer, working for four decades in the Hollywood studio system in films, television, and pop recordings. He studied with Schoenberg...and became a specialty niche for Ralke. Ralke is credited for convincing non-singers including William Shatner and Lorne Greene to play it safe and stick to narration over a musical background. Ralke also produced Beach Boys dad Murry Wilson's The Many Moods of Murray Wilson which was not kindly lauded by critics but nonetheless has achieved a place as an important footnote in 1960s music.

I Believe In My Mess  Dead in the Head   Favoriting We Can't Be Wrong  Filthy Good Records  2024  An anthem to carry us forward into 2025. The messy world of this Amsterdam-based duo ranges from indie, afro and dub to electronic, krautrock and beyond.

Ugh, beat those sniffles for good Kristine... No fun! Glad you avoided the hell commute. I was one of those thousands kicked off Line 1 on Wednesday as the TTC tried to figure out "signal" issues & pretended they knew how to get shuttle buses to run efficiently in rush hour. Ended up taking a far-to-expensive Uber that went into "surge pricing" the minute the Subway shut down. Grr.

My mistake... 30 mins... "“This morning was another difficult day for TTC customers. We know thousands of customers were inconvenienced, and we sincerely apologize,” interim CEO Greg Percy said in a statement published on social media.

Trains on the busy line, which runs from Vaughan Metropolitan Centre Station to the downtown core and back up to Finch Station, were stopped just after 7 a.m. for roughly 30 minutes.

Shuttle buses were deployed, and service was eventually restored, but the TTC warned that delays would persist as the system recovered. Some commuters who messaged CTV News Toronto said they were forced to use a ride-sharing service to get to their destination, and experienced “surge-pricing.”

Percy noted three other similar service delays have occurred in the past week, including a 60-minute stoppage on Line 1 on Monday."
