just played a show in brattleboro. found some metal clothes poles that were cut up for an art project, found a frame, found some paint brushes (for percussion), and board, for a sound board, and later, a bass board for stomping 4x4 riddims, and a rusty old steel barrel for many tings w/in a sextet...

there was a time i had some money, and i bought lots of records... lots i'd never heard of.
most stores did not have listening stations, but i rarely bought anything i knew absolutely nothing about.

...but a few times, based on descriptions at the record bins; or associations. (like, i bought anything if Eno's name appeared on it somewhere)

so i got an album (the indestructible beat of soweto?) and mailed the post card to shanachie records that came inside.
after that, for about a decade(?) i'd buy from shanachie, based on the catalogue descriptions.
several hundreds of albums into that, i'd rarely been disappointed.
