While Gabelick acknowledged that the drink is a "niche liquor", selling a comparatively small number of cases annually, it has gained increased relevance among bartenders, bikers, and Chicago's southside community where Gabelick notes that it has become "a rite of passage". The satirist John Hodgman has also adopted the drink in his stage show, offering shots to his audience. In an interview with Gothamist blog Chicagoist, John Hodgman said Jeppson's Malört "tastes like pencil shavings and heartbreak."

I think it might be a combined Junior High/High School - some of those voices sounded older than junior high. I also think that was the 'Concert Choir' rather than the 'Swing Choir', which I only know of from MST3K mentions, but seems decidedly more 'corny' than the arrangement performed. Thanks for the exhaustive background on the composer, Louis F. "Chip" Davis Jr.

"I used Italicus, the bergamot aperitif" - yep, that is what Gus said but wasn't in my memory bank at the time. I've seen the clear, bright aqua bottle at liquor stores:
www.astorwines.com...
For Brother Cleve's cocktail, the vial of root beer bitters is muddled with *sugar* (duh, makes better sense), then measure 2 1/2 oz high proof Jamaican rum (AND a splash of Smith & Cross? To add further flavor to plain rum?) and 1/2 oz Rittenhouse Rye. Add ice, and steer it up, like Bob Marley...
